QUESTION Secrets of the grocery stores

Thought it would be nice to start a thread on this an we can all add to it or explain things more.

could somone explain how you get stores to order larger amts for you or maybe what stores will do this?

Here is my secret: When you see items empty or blown out on the shelf, there could be a few reasons why they are not immediatly refilled.
Some include...people clearing them out b/c of good coupon deals, the store not ordering enough to cover the sale and not having them in bac stock, the store being stingy, the store not having enough staff to put them out and sometimes..the store doesn't have them in stock because a separate vendor delivers them and stocks the item.

My DH works for Kraft and his product is delivered separately and by his company. Some stores refuse let him leave any backstock or if he is allowed to leave stock, they refuse to put it up on the shelf. Now...doesn't make alot of sense does it?? He can't be in every one of his stores every day, all day putting up the item.

Anyone have any other things to share???

I worked at Walmart and we had no problem ordering extra/cases for people. You just had to call and talk to the department manager and ask for it to be ordered.

I know what you mean Micheller - at Walmart we weren't to stock the vendor items, and some of them never had backstock. But we had business cards for all of them so that if someone needed something we could call and let them know what was going on (we would get alot of special orders for Pepsi/Coke for high school football game concession stands) Most of them work on commission, so they loved getting big orders :-)

I don't really have any other insight to GE. WM though, I could write a book LOL I was dept. manager of frozen foods for a year, and then dry grocery for a year - and I worked in just about every other area of that store when they needed extra help :-) (except for running the registers...I made myself scarce when they called for cashiers hehe)

At my GE I just call my BIL, but if he is on vacation there are other managers I could ask, I just have never had too.

I don't know that Kebbler makes there own orders at my store. I has asked about the Special K Pretzel bars last time they were on sale because they were OOS. My BIL said that Keebler handles all of their own ordering. I don't know if this includes stocking as well but I don't think so.

I worked at the Latrobe store - I know some of the vendors had huge areas - was he ever out this way? Does he do the Kraft Pizzas?

Most of the vendors order and stock their own product. There are instances that the stores will stock the product if there is stock left during sales. Pepsi, Coke, and 7-up visit the stores daily along with most of the bread vendors. The rest are typically there between 2 and 3 times a week.

Completely forgot about this until I started blabbering about coupon usage in the other thread LOL

Companies that have 'Reps', which most of the bigger ones do, like Kellogg's, ConAgra, etc. push coupon campaigns big time.

This is going back to me working at WM, but I'm sure it applies to anywhere. When they know the store is having a sale during a coupon campaign (high value/free/bogo that sort of big coupon deal) They PUSH the store to order more, or to build a display of it. ConAgra was the worst for this - my goodness the rep was great, but at the time coupons weren't big in the area, and we rarely needed to buy extras in anticipation of crazy coupon people LOL and he would push and push and push me to order more stock! They want their product sold during that time - they want their product to be front and center and they want that product to fly off the shelf!

So yes, companies know when they're having a coupon out, the stores know when there is a coupon out, and both anticipate the sales. Now, not all of that info trickles down to the cashiers and/or even store level employees - but corp definitely knows about it!
