FYI Giant Eagle: Heads up regarding $5 card credit

In regards to the three "$5 off your next shopping visit" credits that are loaded onto your GE card...

If you go to a cashier, they ASK if you want to redeem them.
If you go to a SCO, it AUTOMATICALLY deducts it.

I don't have information as to if it will give you partial credit or not (I wasn't willing to guinea pig for that one!).

My SCO total planned to be 20.66 before coupons, and 6.44 after coupons. I was planning on using a 3oyno and a 2oyno. Instead, it automatically took my $5 off when I hit "finish and pay" and before it asked "do you have any coupons?" I was able to simply take out my 3oyno and 2oyno and save them for next time. My order generated a 3oyno and a 2oyno... so I did got the $5 off the card and into hand!

Last week the cashier automatically took it off but today the cashier didn't say anything. I kinda wanted to wait till tomorrows ad anyway so I didn't say anything to her. It seems like I have to tell them when I want to use it. I thought it would automaticaaly be deducted the next 2 times.

I've heard other people say they had trouble getting the $5 to come off when they used a cashier. I only ever use the SCOs and I know mine have come off automatically. I didn't even realize it came off yesterday...I remembered to check only after I got home and saw it came off my receipt. I also used a $3 OYNO so I got $8 off my total (and of course another $16 in manu coupons).

I was at GE yesterday and she asked if I wanted to take my $5.00 off and I was all confused. I just said no thinking it was the fuel perks. DUH! I am such an idiot sometimes. I will take it off my next orders. Daughter's grad party is coming up...I will get ice with the fives!

Went to GE last night and asked the lady to use my $5 credit...no problem. I also used the $2 credit I had for Viewing the weekly online. That was nice that I got to use both of them.

You have 90 days to use them. You can only redeem one per day. If you use a SCO, as soon as your total is over $5, the system will automatically apply the credit (cannot override it). It can be used to pay tax (my total was $4.99+tax, $5 credit was applied), at least in Ohio.

I had an order that ended up going negative because the cashier took the 5 and then the 2 before I gave her my coupons. I told her to ring up something else from my second order (because I had split them up) but she went and got the manager to override the transaction and actually gave me the $1.50 back as cash for the amount that went negative! I was really surprised it happened because I didn't think they would give cash back.
