    QUESTION COLOR printed coupons ONLY?

I went to GE today in Crafton/Ingram shopping center. I had three coupons that I was able to legitimately print from one of the online sources for Bagelfuls. They refused them. Said they have to be in color. They did not have it posted so I asked - they said that it would be easy to copy them. I said if you have a color printer that scans you can do the same. They said they didnt care about that but that only color coupons. The CS manager said it is posted on their website.

Called TOLL free CS: they said the coupon redemption policy is on the site under savings tab - then coupon redemption policy. I had already found it. It says nothing about color printed coupons only. It does say no photo copies and then other things like no coupons that appear to be fraudulent and then reserving the right to not accept a coupon. Nothing in stone about color only (which is what the cs mgr quoted specifically). They are passing it along.

Called store manager: just to see what the actual policy is and to ask if they would post the policy at the checkouts to avoid future confusion when things change. He said he wasnt clear on what the policy was (must have gotten a different dept manager) and would find out and get back to me.

I just want them to post the policies at the register. I almost feel like I should print a coupon redemption policy for anywhere I shop to avoid this kind of thing in the future.

I just read the coupon policy at gianteagle.com and don't see it listed anywhere that it has to be in color.
Giant Eagle - Coupon Redemption Policy

Weis tried to pull that to me last week stating the first of the month it was changing to have to be in color - but I don't see it listed anywhere.

I would call corporate to have this discussed too.

Not sure about the ones you printed - but many coupons do say on them that they are okay to print in B&W. Also - is your store corporate or independent? If it is corporate refer to Jodi's post about Austintown.

That drives me bananas! There's technology today to make Color counterfeits. If I wanted to do counterfeits, color is what I'd make them with. I print my internet coupons in black and white for two reasons:

    1) I'm cheap and hate paying for color ink
    2) I have a monochrome (black & white only) laser printer. I could not print in color if I wanted to.

Please keep us informed if you pursue this. I'm confident if you pursue this, you'll see satisfaction.

    Thanks for reporting this. :-)

My GE says they only accept them in color too....but I'm not sure if they actually enforce it, I usually print all mine in color. But when I first started shopping there that was one of my first questions, and the cashier just stated as long as they're in color they'll accept them.

Doesnt make a bit of sense though - it's just as easy to copy in color as it is in b&w!

i go through self checkout and avoid the hassle. Kuhns told me the same thing last week, but after i spoke to the manager he was fine... besides bagelfuls are 1.88 at walmart... beats even GEs sale

Then there are Internet coupons that have no color at all.

I once had a problem redeeming a CVS $4.00 / $20.00+ coupon because my laser printer's toner was running low.

The printout look a lot like a photocopy.

I explained that my laser printer's toner was running low, that it was not a photocopy.

I was about to mention that both systems (photocopier and laser printer) use the same technology but I did not want their heads to spin and their eyes go glassly.

A Giant Eagle customer should be able to answer a cashier's charge that the coupon looks like a photocopy by saying that it is not a photocopy.

    As in "on my honor."

    Then it should be accepted.

did you ever try to copy a coupon or scan it? i did accidentally, well intentionally but in an innocent way. I tried to scan a copy to send to my friend to show her what coupon she needs to print and where THEN i tried to copy it to show her it later on (because i was going to use mine before i saw her) well, coupons do not scan/copy...as least on my printer/scanner. they turn all black! the whole page!

I too was informed of this "new policy" at the same store just the other day. When I asked the cashier why it works in self checkout (ie there isn't anyone there to see if color or not)- the mgr accepted them.

Always use self checkout if you can- when the register has an issue with your coupons they are so annoyed to have to come over and fix it that everytime they have just put my coupons through- barely reading them.

FYI, this is a privately owned store. Hence why it is so dated and dirty all the time. The Kennedy store is much nicer and worth the drive if you can.

Laughing at the spinning heads and glassy eyes!!!

I am amazed at how many cashiers are so quick to accuse customers of fraud. When I was in retail we were not allowed to do such a thing - we had to let LP know and let them handle it, but in no way, shape, or form were we permitted to accuse a customer of any wrong doing, even if we really did know it was wrong (like watching them pocket and item or what not.) It was still up to LP to handle.
