    GE Wrong Price Scan policy

I had no idea that GE still did the thing that if an item rings up incorrectly, you get the first one free and the amount overcharged on any other items refunded!

This morning I ran up to grab some of the clearance Little Swimmers, Theraflu and Pediacare. I got

    1 Little Swimmers 3$ - 1$ mq = 2$
    6 Pediacare@ 1.50 - 2$/2 mq = 50c a box (3$)
    6 Theraflu @ 2$ - 2$ mq = free
1 bag of cough drops 50c

So my total after coupons should have been 5.50....I paid 24.72!! I even said to the kid working that the total was way off, but he just stared blankly at me...LOL So needless to say, 4 of the Pediacare and all 6 Theraflu rang up full price!

But I was shocked when I told the CS lady about it and she grabbed one of the theraflu and one of the pedicare and said, 'Well these will be free and then we'll figure out what else we owe you for the others'!! I got back 24.09!

Do all GEs do that for incorrect price scans? I'm really going to start checking my receipts LOL

Wow! I've never heard of a policy like GE's. I never did shop ours too often so I'm not sure if the policy is the same or not but will have to check that out.

    WooHoo on your final price!

Yep, I had that happen with a Bird Eye vegetable a few weeks ago. It's great!

    AccuScan Guarantee.

At the Brook Park, OH and Middleburg Heights, OH Giant Eagle, there is a sign posted that explains the AccuScan guarantee.

Near the entrance (near the newspapers) and at the Customer Service Desk.

It is a big poster sized sign that has an oversize barcode and, below it, how the policy works.

Come to think of it, I believe I have seen the sign at all northeastern OH Giant Eagles.

I have used it a couple times and it usually ends up being an education for the help.

The first thing I ask at the Customer Service Desk is:

    Q) Does Giant Eagle have a price scan guarantee?

I ask this open ended question to find out what the help does know about the guarantee.

If they say, "Oui," I politely ask them to explain it to me.

That is done to see if they fully know the policy.

    Q) Did you know that sales at Giant Eagle start at midnight, the start of Thursday?

Well, it turns out that their computers take about ½ hour to get 'in-sync' which means that if you are at Giant Eagle right after midnight, the start of Thursday, the sale items ring up at full price.

    Think: AccuScan Guarantee

At the Giant Eagle in Brook Park, OH, if you leave the store and then return then, with most item, they are instructed to throw that item out, after giving you a refund of an exchange.

    Even with canned goods.

I believe that it is a liability issue (food tampering), where it is less expensive to toss it than to risk a lawsuit.

I knew about it..but never enforced yet.
one time the kiwi shoelaces were ringing up item not found..so they called a price check. The guy told her 1.49 when i picked up the 1.19 ones..

i was goin to accept it but i told the cashier that i made sure i got the 1.19ones because i matched the upc code on the package to the upc code on the pricetag. (packages were in the wrong place and i wanted the "right" ones)

so she told the as.manager to price check again and this time the manager was ticked off. i said "don't worry about it" lol but no she said ILL go and check(after telling her that i check the codes so i know the right price.)

she came back and wasn't ticked off anymore and said she was truly sorry they were 1.19. the cashier was really nice while was encouraging my good deals and also said i should enforce the wrong price policy...i just shook my head and no she is already ticked off w/ me (the manager) lol and i was only paying .19cents after coupon so it wasn't worth it

but so far thats the only problem i had with prices...
oh maybe a few weeks ago a clearanced toy ball was scanned full price not the sale price but i don't think it counts when the cashier changes it before i pay :)

In CT, that is the law. All stores give you that deal because they have to.
