Default Giant Eagle Self Checkouts

I have a few questions on the self check outs. I was wondering if some one could help me. I plan on doing a lot of deals this week and really don't feel like dealing with the cashiers. Thanks

1. How many of one like kind can you use before it beeps?
2. How may total coupons can you use before it beeps?
3. Can you use IP's?
4. How do "free" coupons work? Do you need a cashier?
4. Is it ok to do multiple trans? Or do they give you problems?

Thanks again, I know this is a lot to ask.

I can't answer all of your questions but here's what I've found:

1. Two like coupons before they beep.
2. Don't have a clue.
3. You can use internet printables.
4. Alot of the free coupons require a cashier's assistance.
5. I've done multiple transactions.

One word of caution. I used the self scanner today and my husband pointed out that our bill was higher than he thought. Fortunately I looked at the receipt before we left and noticed something odd. The first charge was for something called Mylicon which I didn't buy for $11.49 and a charge for Kasier rolls. Someone before me scanned their items and didn't pay for them. I came along and it automatically added it to my receipt. I went to customer service along with my order and they credited my charge card $14.00.

It'll beep after you have 30% savings for a cashier to intervene. While they take their time to come over,I take that time to bag my items.

This may vary store to store - I've gotten quite a bit more than 30% without a problem. Of course "free" DEFINITELY beeps, lol! The one time I tried it, the machine asked me to take my items and receipt and pay the self-checkout cashier. And the lady who came over had no idea what was happening and wandered around the front area with my receipt in her hand while asking me for my receipt. She thought mine was someone else's and that the machine was refusing to give me a receipt. Her manager finally explained that it was ok to have enough q's to completely cover a purchase.

The max # of transactions I've done is 2 - I'm too chicken to hold up the line for long.

HTH!

Coupons 2$ and over will beep for the cashier to come over and override them too. I've never had a problem using them though, I just save the higher ones for last so the cashier can do them all at once.

I've done 5 or so transactions at once before, only when the SCOs aren't busy. Which usually they're not at my store, they always have tons of them open and only 2 or 3 regular ones open, but it seems most people like to go through the cashiers instead of dealing with the SCO process.

And I always look to make sure the green light is on on the cat machine before I check out too :-)

The way the self scanners are enqineered, I believe that a lot is 'user definable.'

This allows the store to choose how many identical coupons to accept before register beeps.

+

They can also choose what high dollar coupon causes the register to beep (requiring cashier intervention).

+

With free items coupons, the coupon itself causes the register to beep because of the need to know the dollar amount of the savings.

At the self serve I scan the freebies last so that the cashier can easily locate their price.

At regular registers, I place the freebies first.

I'm the same way about freebies - I keep them together either 1st or last and keep those coupons separate, so I can hand them to the cashier as soon as the items are scanned - makes it much easier for them to write the price on the coupon. Then I hand over all my other coupons. The cashiers seem to really appreciate it.
