Default Re: What sort of Mistakes have you made since couponing?

I found this whole thread to be quite entertaining and I also appreciate all the honesty with all your mistakes made, maybe I can learn from yours rather than making them all myself! I have only been doing this for a few weeks, but I have already gotten a 3 inch binder, which is already full ( I saw some others opted for 5 inch and I thought that would be too big...hahaha...now I know better) I feel very organized and I will never lose that big binder, which I saw someone mention on here, unless there is a HUGE sale somewhere and it gets buried. I also have a method for not letting things expire in my stockpile, which without this site would be 2 tubes of toothpaste and a bottle of A1. I get a sharpie marker and write the exp. date clearly on the front and then put the ones that expire last in the back. This makes it really easy to see the dates and I think it will help as I plan to use things before they expire. Now, for what you have all been waiting for...my biggest mistake so far is....taking my family with. They completely ruin my bottom line. So, although I love them, when it comes time to shop...they need to stay home!

Yeah, that's what happens to me most often too. Especially the first one. I'll make a special trip and then forget until after I've paid and am in the car. Extremely annoying!

I have forgotten to use the coupons intended for the items! Sometimes I just can't find the coupon I know I have! Or at CVS, I have forgotten to maxamize my savings by forgetting to use my CVS coupon during a transaction. But I don't think anyone has perfect transactions all the time; I think practice and planning, planning, and more planning, are key to it all.

Trading for or ordering clipped coupons for the hot sale only to find out the hot sale isnt working in my area.
I am bad about getting worked up about something and jumping the gun a little bit.

I am so not organized too! I have two binders and try to keep up but just cant tehre is always something not clipped or clipped bu not filed and I can never find what I want when I need it

I've gotten much better about it now, but in the past I would buy things *just because I had a coupon.* Now if I have a Q for an item that I want to try, I definitely think about if we need/will like it and how much it will be. I also, on occasion, have bought to many of a food item that was on a good deal just to have myself and my family get tired of eating it.

Bringing my family with me. I get to listen to the kids "I want this and that" and my dh "we don't need so much of this or that" (unless it's something he wants and then we need to stock up).

So... the Soy Joy bars are that bad??

I just read all 14 pages; thank you ALL so much for sharing.. I had to chuckle while reading it..because already I have found I have made similar mistakes and it makes me feel so much better that I am not the only one to have made these errors. Hopefully I can do better in the future with the tips I receive from reading here. :)

The 1 mistake i made was buying the wrong product and using a Q on it. It wa smy 1st x price matching. I bought 2 or 3 boxes of big boxes of bagel bites for $1.99 and it should have been for the small box, OOPS. Didn't notice till we got home. The other was when i was using a Q for B1G1 Free and the cashier gave me it for free plus took the price off as well for the other then manually entered another Q wrong. She saved me over $6 on it but i'm sure the store wasn't happy for it.

Thumbs Up thank you for this thread

I just made one.
Yesterday I spent around $45 for mailed coupons. (I am very excited about this, don't get me wrong! I loved being able to buy coupons for what we use!)

Today I bought the Sunday paper. Now I'm kicking myself because I would have bought some different coupons to go with the ads. I'm so glad I read this thread , I decided to stay within my budget and not buy more.
