Default Re: How did you get your husband (or wife) on board?

Just a quick update here... after several months of just being patient, letting my husband come to the store with me, having him standing next to me at the register watching as I sort our order(I will ring separate transactions if needed)

Well, my husband went from being nervous and reluctant to the point where he will actually search the internet for printable coupons.. and he NEVER goes into the store without checking that store's flyer and asking me for coupons.

We actually have had 3 GREAT trips shopping together this month, he works as my partner now:)

I just showed him my Walgreen's receipt and circled Total Savings.

When he saw that, it was love at first sight!

He has encouraged me ever since. He'll even bring the Sunday inserts from his work.

The best part is, when I come home with all the goodies, HE is the one to put them away and organize them!

AHHH...I am one lucky woman.

We're just starting couponing, but so far my husband has been very supportive. I think he understands the value of stockpiling--he's even gone so far as to talk about stockpiling "a little extra" for family and friends. I'm hoping that we can be organized about everything and not end up fighting over the clutter, but that's a worry for another day.

Mine sees it as the game it is. He actually had a coupon for our air filters and he checked the prices at two places before he bought. He's paying more attention to the sales flyers and rememberd to take the cvs card before going to by the Coke today.

My hubby is a health food nut.. getting tons of Kellog's Smart start cereal from wags was a great thing. Going to Stop and Shop today with 75 cent coupons for Tribes Hummis sent the man into coupon bliss. The tribes 8 oz size was on sale 2/$5 after coupons it was $2, he normally spends $4.49 a week for this stuff!

With my husband, I just keep talking about the money. When I talk about the "stuff", he has scary visions of the house filled with lots of things we don't need.

He also told me that he doesn't want me to be stressed out trying to save money. I think it makes him feel like he's not providing enough. Of course he is; I just like SAVING it for US!!

To help him have the experience, I gave him a list of things he knows we need and a handful of coupons and asked him to do the shopping. When he saw how much we saved, he was on board!

He's such an awesome man!!

My DH will use coupon on things he wants only. He thinks I'm crazy for keeping every coupon that is in the inserts. If I take my binder he will not go with me. He does not want to been see with "that coupon lady".

Re: How did you get your husband (or wife) on board?

I was not so on board at first, but my wife took me through it, now I am helping by joing groups (like this one). Ultimately - show him the bottomw line - how much it saves. Making it simple for him helps too. SOmethimes adding up the savings (or petential savings) for the year would help too.

Good Luck

Jeff

It's encouraging to read all your stories. My hubby isn't there yet. He just rolls his eyes when I say I have a coupon. We're going to go to Cold Stone tonight and I have a coupon 2/$5 and it's going to feed 3 of us. And I have Red Lobster coupons. I think it embarrasses him but I don't care. Saving money matters!!!
