I would love to go dumpster diving, but our dumpsters are either in locked fences that are monitored, or in a busy parking lot. Plus, our crappy coupons aren't worth diving for. In my old town, I knew the nice old man that managed the recycling center. I brought a lot of recycling and asked him if he minded if I looked for coupons. He didn't, plus he brought me his newspaper with his coupons (minus the ones his sweet wife had cut out!) How I miss that small town!

I had the WORST luck ever this week. I usually get anywhere from 10-30 inserts. THis week....ONE from the paper my parents gave me!!

One place I usually go to, the papers were SOAKING wet (we had 6 inches of rain!), next place I called in the morning & asked if they had any left from Sunday & they checked, came back & said no, all sold out. I didn't believe it cause I was getting 10+ inserts there the last few weeks. So I went & checked it out anyhow...and NOTHING.

My other good spot was empty again today as they were last week too. I don't know WHAT is going on!

WAHHHHHHHH

My first dumpster diving excursion wasn't very fruitful. Today is recycle day and there is a newspaper/magazine recycle bin I pass on my way to work and I decided to stop by this morning. Plenty of papers but either someone beat me to the coupon inserts or the previous owner removed them all. I didn't go too far down since I was wearing a white shirt, but the stack came up almost to the 'lip' of the dumpster so I was able to do a little rifling. Many of the papers were neatly in order so I think the newspaper carrier may've removed the inserts. Either that or the previous owner is like me and has to make sure the paper is put neatly back together.

hahaha. I haven't given up yet. I'll try again. I even went inside Burger King last Sunday (I usually go through drivethru) and there was a paper, but no coupons. :(

You just gave me the best laugh I've had all day... I gonna start looking at our local recycle bins and see if I see one of our members using the OP's method..

we did this for the first time this past week . Was 3 bins , at 3 different schools . all within 2 miles of each other. We ended up with atleast 80 inserts!! some were a bit old but most were from the last week - 2 weeks ! My entire family coupons. so this was a great score for us all :) and will be back next week and hope for the same results !! What fun!! :)

Last time we were there, the recycling truck came to take the full dumpster away, and replace it with an empty one! :mad6: I didn't know what to say or do, so I quickly threw in the papers in my hand, and left! LOL! Didn't discourage me, though. I'll be back. :wink068:

Just wanted to say that I love this thread- and it really has inspired DH and I to check the recycle bins while out on our bike rides.

Almost everytime we go on a ride we come back w/ at least 5 inserts of coupons- and that's just from casually looking in and only grabbing whats on top.

Some of our friends think we are crazy- but it sure is better than paying for a bunch of papers each week!

This makes me want to keep on trying!

I buy the state paper every Sunday and my roommate gets the regional (East Valley Tribune) and let's me have his inserts, but sometimes two sets just aren't enough. And his coupons are slightly different from my 'state' ones. I tried getting my mom's, but it'd be too much of a hassle to get her before she recycles them (often on Sunday) and have her mail them to me (they live about an hour away in the same state)
