I used to grow cherry tomatoes and herbs in my kitchen window. It's a garden window. I quit doing it when I realized we weren't really using much of what I grew.
Just wondering if anyone does a fall/winter garden. i am in NC and was thinking about doing one but haven't tried it. what do you plant if so?

Sorry....that just amused me. All I can grow in the winter is bigger snow piles. What do your temps run? Do you even frost there? I know it's rare for you to get snow. Cool weather crops like lettuce, broccoli , brussell sprouts might do well. My evening temps in the summer run in the 50's, days in the 60's. We were lucky to see 70 a few times this year. It sucked.
THings like carrots and brussel sprouts even like to be frosted...they get sweeter.
Right now our temps are still in the upper 80s but this coming week we will be in the 70s. it does snow but not anything like omg blizzard lol. I was thinking lettuce, spinach, carrots.and broccoli. I just never have good luck with gardens lol. My dad gave me the seeds so i am going to try it. I already have a herb garden that is doing pretty good so far.

I am in Maryland. At the beginning of September it was still quite warm but I planted a few different varieties of lettuces and some broccoli. The are growing pretty well so far. I haven't tried the lettuce yet but everyday I go out to the garden and pull off a couple of lettuce leaves and feed them to our turtle. He loves the fresh lettuce!
That's exactly what I was thinking! I've grown up around snow here in NY, and have been down south....so it never ever crossed my mind that you could garden in the winter! Of course I live in an apartment and don't exactaly have a green thumb to begin with, but what do I know.
I live in south GA so I can plant 9 months out of the year. When it gets too cold for my pineapple plants I bring them into my sunroom. I'll also start my seeds indoors around January and they will be ready to go into the ground by March.
It has snowed twice here in 25 years. Aren't I lucky? Nah, actually I'm a northern transplant. I got smarter with age.
