    WOW enginerd!!

My DD has pumpkins in her backyard already - not coz she planted them - but because she left one rotting there last fall!!!

I didn't have a single apple this year - but I still have the pleasure of splattering apples with my tractor - coz the squirrels like to take my neighbor's apples and eat 'em in my backyard!! (when I say eat - I mean take one bite!!!)

we've gotten 4 pumpkins and 6 butternut squash already. Our tomatoes are still going strong, but our corn was really not so good. We got 10 ears total out of two full rows of corn. Not so pleased about the corn!

I think the heat was the problem here too. The stalks look just plain burnt up, and we faithfully watered the garden. I will have to say that our first garden was a huge learning experience for us, and we have reaped so much from it. I just really love garden-fresh corn and was sad that we didn't get much! My peppers didn't do well either, but I've got one plant that all the sudden last week took off. It has baby peppers all over it. I guess there's still hope for a bountiful harvest from that one plant.

My pepper plants are running a little behind too. My tomato plants couldn't make up their mind either. I got my first ripe tomato of the summer today!

Corn isn't doing well anywhere this year. What does grow is very small and people are charging crazy prices for it. Last year our Publix had so much corn they sold it for 10/$1!!!! This year you go in there and they have very few ears and it's like 60c an ear.

Our peppers took off last October once we quit watering them

For the corn...Part of it is they really need rain...not just being watered..esp with scorching 100 plus degree temps for weeks on end.

We had good corn last year other then it got a bit buggy...but it was a little cooler and lots of rain. We still had hot days but the in between rain was enough to keep it from getting stunted.

It is really weird this year...I have had one pepper (ancho) and my plants are almost as tall as me. My tomatoes are just no starting to rippen and my Butternut squash plants have pretty much taken over my entire garden, but I haven't received one yet...NOT ONE...hmph.

My pepper plants are midgets yet are producing one pepper at a time.

Since my last post, I have gotten 3 more tomatoes out of my garden. They are small though. I will just be adding them to the batch that I bought for canning.

I planted green beans earlier this year and ended up pulling them up as they looked horrible. I then planted BE peas in their place basically just to see how they would do. Now they are going nuts! I have bean pods everywhere! Now just hoping that they have time dry out on the vine.
