I started gardening lst year and it cost a small fortune! I would suggest that you look into square foot gardening. Much cheaper and great yields.
    Best of luck.

In case anybody is interested, the cheap seed packets are beginning to show up in stores here. Walgreen's has had them here for a couple weeks now, about 3/$1 everyday, haven't seen 10/$1 Qs in the ad yet. Found them at Walmart today -- 20 cents a package. The selection is slimmer than previous years, but I suspect they haven't gotten them all in yet. There weren't any bargain flower seeds so far.
There was an Italian salad blend, (mesclun) which I've never seen in the bargain packs before. It's a 2.5 gram packet -- quite a bit of seed for that price. It contains a mix of about 14 different greens. If you haven't ever tried the Tendergreen spinach-mustard, be sure to do it. Really tasty.
We usually get the seeds at a couple dollar stores, Ace Hardware and a ranch supply store before the season is over. Rite Aid used to get them too, but our store is long gone.
