    Default Berries question

Is there any way I can get berry trees/bushes/plants that will produce this year? Most of what I'm seeing says they will produce the second or third year. Which is great, but I want some NOW. I'm not exactly the most patient person.
I would love to have strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries.

You can probably get some of those at an area nursery. If you're more patient you can probably get some bare root stock from online places. Google is your friend!

I agree with Renee, usually at nurseries, you will see berry plants that have already started flowering, etc that you could purchase and transplant. Good luck!

I also understand that blueberries and I am guessing blackberries would probably be the same, are very tempermental when it comes to the dirt you plant them in. They have to be at a certain pH level in order to even THINK about producing fruit, so if you decide to plant these, make sure you do a LOT of research prior to planting, or speak to your local nursery. You will want to make sure you are giving them the soil they want and are looking for in order to produce fruit, or you may be disappointed.

I agree with other posters above, you would need to find a nursery and ask if they have 1 or 2 year plants. With that being said, you still may only get a small amount of fruit. With strawberries, I was always told, the first year, pick off the berries as they come on (because they will be small anyway) and this will help your plant to produce bigger and more plentiful berries the following year! Remember you can't rush mother nature! :)

I tried to grow berries last year. I started with a stick of a plant, got some leaves and then both of the plants died. Not sure if I'll try again this year or not...

If you have any friends that already have plants, maybe they will let you dig up a few. I got my raspberries from a friend. THey are two-year canes, so the first year they won't produce, second year they do and then I cut the canes off in the spring of the ones that had berries. They spread all by themselves, so there's always runners coming up all over. Mine are in full sun.

I haven't found a good place for strawberries. I've tried in a couple of spots, but they just haven't liked it. I think they should be in full sun, also. Tried some blueberry canes once, but they didn't make it.

I have lots of wild berries on my property-highbush cranberry, lowbush cranberry, currents and some watermelon berries. THere's wild blueberries in the nearby mountains, so if I really want some, I'll go there.

Eh, don't be. We just had a week (yes, a whole week) of sustained winds of 40-50mph with gusts that were 70-80mph. It was nasty. Now we're at -10 below and will be through Thursday. The weather isn't always very nice to us. But at least I'm not in Fort Yukon where it was some -50 below last night. Ugh. Even Glennallen was -44. Don't mind it so much when it stays at 20 or above. Not so hard to keep the house warm. We heat with a woodstove.

If you get the one gallon pots you will get strawberries this year. There will be more next year though. Also will get a lot of runners~ babies. Make sure to cover the strawberries or the animals will get them all.

I have my strawberries in 2 raised planter boxes 8 foot by 4 foot. We just built row covers for them.
