Have you always grown them from seed? The reason I ask is I've read they are very hard to start that way and just wondered if you were successful.

I agree with Renee. Much much easier to grow them when they have all ready started with the small plants.
If I was going to choose seed...I would choose burpee...but I always do the small plants instead, for Tomato's.
I had fabulous Roma plants last year. If you plan on canning them...Roma is a good choice as well.

I personally have never started them from seed. I always start from plants. I do roma's, heirlooms, super sweet 100s and santas...With the short growing season up here, I find it easier to start from plants versus seeds

I NEVER had luck starting tomatoes from seed until I used the winter sow method. Now it's the only way for me. :-) The plants from winter sowing do better than plants from the nursery. PM me if you want more info?
Oh, and I tried the Golden Rave hybrid tomatoes last year for the first time and they were AWESOME. Came on a month earlier than most other people were getting them and, except for a month or so when it was too hot in the summer, kept producing through the fall.

I start tomatoes and numerous other from seeds every year. It really isn't that hard if you have some type of growlight and start them about the 1st of Feb. They need a good 8 weeks to be big and strong enough to go outside.
I LOVE heirloom tomatoes! If you google Heirloom tomatoes, you should get many websites. I have ordered from Tomato Bob www.tomatobob.com and Totally Tomatoes www.totallytomato.com. Both websites give descriptions of the tomatoes, where they originated from, what is the best tasting, etc.
One of my favorites is Brandywine~
I grow tomatoes from seed each year too and haven't found it hard. I do use a Gro Light on a timer (set for 9 hours of light). For the best taste, look for heirloom varieties. They were bred for taste and not high-volume. Pink Accordian, for instance, is tasty and very cool looking too.
Another tip--make sure to "harden off" your plants before putting into the ground. That means to give them a small exposure to the outdoors, gradually increasing it and not just tossing them outside to fend for themselves. :-)

I purchase my seeds from Pinetree Seed Co. They're pretty quick with their orders and have awesome prices. They offer hybrid and heirloom varieties but have way way way more heirloom seed offerings. I've had good luck finding some rare seeds from them. Plus them come in the cutest seed packets I've ever seen!
