SMILE Mary Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow? ~ 2010

When my now 18 year old daughter was little she used to say

"With silver bells and taco shells and pretty maids all in a row"

So..... many of us frugal folks plant a garden to help save money on the cost of vegetables and fruits. So vote in the poll if you have a garden or not (garden means fruits/veggies/flowers/herbs in the ground or in containers for the purposes of this poll)

And if you want to tell us more about your garden, go ahead and leave a comment to this thread!

    Yes I love to garden

This year we are in a new house and so we are waiting to get a full grasp of what grows where in the already established beds, and what the sunlight conditions are before deciding on what all we will plant. Our growing season here in Wyoming is very short (Memorial Day to about September 1st are our first and last frost dates) so far the only thing I have planted are some flowers and roses. I have some herbs in my windowsill and we have plans for blueberries bushes in the front yard and apple and cherry trees in the back yard as well as asparagus. With the kids we are planning on planting snow peas, cucumbers and zucchini. As those grow well here and don't require a long growing season. In the past we have tried tomatoes, pumpkins, corn and carrots and did not have much luck in getting a harvest before frost set in.

well I wouldn't say I love to garden.....but I do make an attempt! LOL I have a black walnut tree so most of my flowers this year went into pots...hopefully those will live! my brother (lives with me) did a garden for the first time...make the gate and everything! so assuming everything grows we'll have lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots, watermelon, cucumbers and marigolds (lol....once of these things is not like the other...)

We are growing peas, jalapeno's, and tomatoes. I wanted several different kinds of peppers, and DH thought he got 9 different kinds of plants...well, he got 9 jalapenos. Ha! I'm learning all sorts of ways to cook with those!

We also have a lime, a plum, blueberries, and a couple of kumquats. YUM!

This is my second year. Last year was a huge flop But so far this year I've picked tomatoes, blueberries, green beans. I've got watermellon, squash, lettuce (picked this already too), cucumbers, blackberries and raspberries. I'm having fun with it!

    YES, I LOVE TO GARDEN

We are growing limes, sour oranges (from Mexico), jalapenos, habaneros, cucumbers, tomatoes, cilantro, chives, parsley, carrots, watermelon, and bell peppers. Good thing my kids love their vegetables, even the habaneros.

When we were house-hunting last summer I insisted on finding a place where I could garden until my heart's content. The yard on the South side of our house is the perfect area for a garden as it gets full sun all day long!

We have raised beds this year and are using the square foot method to grow: salad greens & arugula, carrots, beets, turnips, radishes, green onion & leeks, 2 types of green beans, peas, okra, tomatoes, zucchini & summer squash, 2 types of cucumber, numerous varieties of tomatoes, corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, and lots of different types of herbs. My jalapeno and bell pepper seedlings never came up, so if I ever pick up any established plants we'll have those too.

Next year I'd also like to grow strawberries and put in some blueberry bushes and an apple tree.
All sorts of deals for all shades of green.

The past two years, I lost all my tomatoes to late blight. This year, I have a couple of those upside-down thingys that I got for 0.99 each. I have 4 actually, I think I'll do three tomato and one jalapeno.

I'm leery of putting too much time & effort into it, since the past two summers, it was all thrown out.
