All I ever do is if I break a leaf off, I just stick it in a jelly jar (or some shallow container) with the stem part through a piece of foil, so the leaf doesn't get wet. After a while it gets roots. I never pay attention to how long it takes. Nothing fancy at all. After it has a good set of roots, I plant it in dirt. That's all I've ever done.

I cut off a leaf and dip the end in some rooting compound (a powder), then stick it in a pot of soil. Keep the soil moist but not water logged. I generally water from below (have a tray under the pot and water that, not the soil directly)., In 1-2 months, gently tug on the leaf to see if roots have developed.

I will usually keep the leaves in a "starter pot" until they have new leaves growing, then transfer to a larger pot. It can take 4-6 months before that happens.
