A mourning dove laid eggs in one of my wire baskets before I could replace the coconut fiber lining. Being the big softie I am, I left the basket alone, except for "chick proofing" it by plugging holes with old coconut fibers. (Mama bird came back to sit on her eggs)

So, since I obviously can't dig in the soil, I'm thinking of sprinkling some seeds in it and hoping they will grow with little watering. :shrug7:

What do any of you suggest I do with unoccupied dirt in that basket? I'm sure she would appreciate some foliage to shade her chicks from the sun. I will be leaving her a bit of bird seed close to the nest in hopes she picks at that and not my growing seeds.
