have you asked your landlord if you can plant a small garden? and then maybe before you left you could tear the garden up and plant new grass seed? I know from my experience tomatoes take off once you plant them in soil, in fact, mine started to die in the container and once i planted them in the ground they bounced back. might depend on where you live though...im not sure!

I am having to do a container garden this year on our balcony because we live in an apartment, does anyone have any suggestions for herbs that grow well in containers. I can't do a lot because of rules but I still want to keep my herbs.

All my herbs are in planters...if you want to consider those containers. I grow quite a bit and they flourish!!

    Last year I did:

    thyme
    basil
    oregano
    mint
    chocolate mint
    orange mint
    rosemary
    chives
    sage
    pineapple sage
    parsley
    lemon basil

Just give them food and water and they will be happy lil campers.

i just started a container garden this year, planted two tomato and two pepper plants and just used 10 inch planters for each... we are testing our ability to remember to get up and go water them. if we are able to keep these alive, then next year we plan on putting in a few raised beds. so far both of the pepper plants are flowering, one even has a pepper growing, and one of the tomato plants is flowering.
Interested in seeing how every one else plants their veggies and how well they do since i did not do a lot of reading on it.

Does anyone know how strawberry plants would do in a container?

We just started gardening at our new house this year.We sold our old house and moved to Lamar I miss my old garden.Anyway we planted 3 each of blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. We planted two plum trees and have a tomato plant growing in an old pop bottle along with a strawberry plant in another.

We reuse alot of stuff to try to keep the amount of trash that goes to the dump down.I haven't been able to find a recycling center here.We are also growing tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, potato's,watermelons, pump kins, lettuces, radishes and green peppers and hot peppers.

I use some container gardening but mostly raised beds.If you are interested in reading about the soda pop bottles the link is

Also get your selves some earth worms and put some in your soil that is a great way to get some fantastic veg ect growing.
