Default My pointsettia is dropping leaves....

I bought several of this variety and I have them in my kitchen next to the window. I have watered them, but not too much. The soil is damp but they are not sitting in water. They are dropping all their leaves! Not the blooms, but the leaves close to the bottom of the plant. Any ideas about how I can stop this?

never mind...I see from reading that this is normal. GRRR hope the plants don't end up naked before my family arrives for Christmas!

yes, they do drop leaves. gets annoying after a while, picking up the leaves.
looks like you are doing everything right. I just wanted to check with you to make sure there isn't too much sunlight coming in your window, heating your plant because these plants tend to like it a little on the cool side.

Hmmmm didn't think of that. I don't think so, though -- they are by the window but the window's covered in shutters and the door is right there too. I may have to buy another before family gets here.

Another thing is make sure they are not by heater vents, or catching the air from one. We bought about 60 small poinsettia plants for my work. Someone put half of them near the vents, it was a huge mess a couple days later.

Mine did the same thing. I read online that this is what they do. All of my green leaves are gone. Just red left. It said to cut the stems down to a couple inches. Put in a very cool room...say 50-55 degrees and keep until next year. I'm afraid to cut mine back. The red is doing fine??? My dad keeps his all year long and then plants them outside in the summer and it looks soo funny.

I've kept mine in the past, and so has my Mom. I put mine in a real pot, my Mom didn't. Both worked.

I put mine outside in the summer, and it loved it. I didn't trim it back though.

I put mine in the basement right after Christmas where it was cool and in the dark, watered it about once a week and it lost all the leaves except the very top ones, but yesterday I see there are new branch shoots coming out all over it, so I am hoping to put it outside this summer and be able to have it ready for Christmas.
