    Well, I'm in Indy. Last year we planted pumpkins in early to mid May. They started getting huge a little after the 4th of July. By the first of August they were bigger than beach balls and some started going to waste. A friend told me she always plants hers around the 4th and the timing works perfect here. I ended up with a dozen pumpkins, a few started going bad, but most lasted until about Nov 1st. They were just for decoration and carving so it was fine.

    So it's less of a "frost thing" and more of a get them at Halloween thing..ahh I get it.

    See I'm from Utah and there is no point in planting anything early...cause it snows in april, may and heck occasionally june...and with it not being humid there...things just don't grow as well as out here.
