HELP Rubber Tree Plant help...

Okay so I received a Rubber Tree Plant (and a peace plant and some aloe) from a neighbor that recently passed away. Her daughter told me to plant it outside, but EVERYTHING I've read said DON'T plant them outside, especially here where the winters get really cold at times. It's still in it's pot about 5 feet tall. Lots of leaves on the top, not so many on the bottom.

What should I do? I can try to keep it inside but with 3 kids, 3 cats, and 2 (very large) dogs, I'm wondering how well that will work. (And how many times I'll have to pick up dirt from it being knocked over... LOL)

I'm open to anything I can do to keep this thing alive. The neighbor has known DH "since he was kneehigh to a grasshopper" () and I'd love to keep it alive for her.

Hi!! Congrats on you fosters!!
I would have to agree that I have never heard of planting any of those plants outside. The aloe could go outside on a porch or deck in the warmer months but it would die in temps under 45 ish. I put mine outside for the spring/summer/fall nights but as soon as they call for temps in the 40's over night I bring them in. The rubber tree and peace lily I think are low light to medium light plants and I am not sure how they would do outside at all. I have a peace lily and I don't put it out at all, it is a inside plant only. I don't have a rubber tree plant but here they are pretty hardy so it could probably hold its own in your full house!!
Good luck and hope this helps some,
Kristy

I live in Florida and have a rubber tree plant outside that is HUGE! Nothing will kill that. We get temps under 30 sometimes, not that often. I never cover it or anything. Actually I'd like to kill it. I told my husband to dig that puppy out because it's roots are huge and I've heard that if it is close to your house it can ruin your foundation
