HELP When to plant Fall Veggies and What to plant

Right now I just have some melons, cucumbers, and zucchini..oh and some corn going. When I harvest the zucchini and cucumbers and melons do I pull the plants and then just mix some compost in and then plant the fall ones? What are some good fall veggies to plant? Thanks in advance for all your help I am seriously new to gardening and have no clue what I am doing..:shrug7: Thanks again!

It depends on where you are located, I am in lower AL, so I can plant all my spring veggies again. I am planning on planning on planting tomatoes, green beans and peppers. I am planning on planting within the next week. There is a local gardener that has a blog that I use to get ideas on when to plant.

I'm going to plant some different types of lettuce but will probably wait until end of August, so it won't be too hot for it (in NC). If you go to your local stores (Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Ace Hardware, even some of the grocery stores) and see what they have, they generally seem to get their shipments around the right time for planting in the area.

I have already replanted my peas. I'm not planting anymore tomatoes or peppers, and I'm full up to here with watermelon. So after the peas, I'm waiting a while and putting out my winter greens and cabbage. I'm in Fairhope, AL, on the coast. I've just started my cabbage and greens seeds.

I'm not sure if I will replant anything. I know that the jalapeno plant, bell pepper plant, and some other pepper plant is doing well. So maybe I might try them, but we don't even eat them that often, so I don't know.

I'm just not quite sure what to do. Our water rates have risen exponentially.

Ours has too! So we are digging a well just for the sprinkler system. It is $2800, but honestly, watering 9 months out of the year, we'll pay for it in two years.

It just totally ticks me off to pay for something like water but I know, I know, it's necessary. I thought about hooking the whole house in, but I don't like the idea of running out of water during droughts or having to add the filtration system we'd need. We're too close to Mobile Bay to be drinking untreated well water.

I'm in AL too, I'd love to know how to find the blog you're referring to.

Thanks!

our rates are up too but we have been getting quit a bit of rain
lately,i figure in the long run i will be saving money because the
cost of veggies in the stores are crazy,i was at kroger on monday
and they had a 3pk of bellpeppers ( one red/one yellow and one
green ) for over $6,i thought thank goodness i have some growing
in my garden and don't have to get them at the store, and the
cost of tomatoes is rediculous:shrug7:

cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower are good fall veggies as well as pumpkins and gourds. planting time will depend on your area.
