I don't usually.
I don't see how it could make you sick, though. It's just been sucked dry of most of the nutrients and organic matter. I just toss it on the compost heap or in a corner of the garden and use new stuff in the pots.
Is it ok to re use the soil for your veggies & fruits ? I know you can w/ regular plants but just didn't want to take any chances anywhere making my family sick. Thanks

We normally use new every year (not previously taken out of bag new, leftovers from prior years are ok). I normally scatter it throughout the top layer of garden since we buy the type with crystals to hold water longer.
If its price you're worried about, find out when Home Depot or the garden center gets truck and stalk the open bag piles.
I usually dump half of the potting soil and add fresh to the top. That saves me a little money by not needing to purchase all new potting soil. The only thing you really have to worry about is any soil born bugs or stuff, but I find that plants grown in pots are less prone to these.
I put the used potting soil back into the garden.
Potting soil with water saving crystals, just look for anything that is moisture or water saving. Although if you are an organic gardener these crystals are not considered organic and are the same type of polymers found in disposable diapers and maxi pads.

I remembe seeing a gardening show a few years back and yes you can re-use potting soil. The garden show host spread it out on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven to kill off anything unwanted. I don't remember how long he baked it but I know it was at a low temperature. Maybe you could find the information by googling???
I am one of the owners of hotcouponworld, we also own Organic Grocery Deals. Other than that I don't really frequent any other forums very often. But before HCW, I was at Fatwallet and DAGG if any of those ring a bell![]()
