I am pretty new to this site, and just realized I have lots of "reputation points" -- I guess these are positive reinforcements from fellow users that liked posts I made?

Are reputation points used for anything or are they just for fun to give others an idea of how helpful our posts are or what?

Yes you are right on target. It is just to show appreciation. Welcome here you will fit in just fine.

You can give reps to another user by clicking on the little scale logo underneath a person's user name. You can approve or disapprove of a post - to disapprove gives negative reps and takes away from a person's total reps. If you ever see someone with red instead of green on the little blocks it means they have had some negative reps. I haven't seen it much in my year + on here but it does happen.

Also, the more reps someone has the more reps they give someone else when they approve of a post.

Glad to know how to rep folks now :-) I'm a little late. I was just checking out my CP and saw Reputation and comments I never noticed before (I just now checking out my CP and editing my siggy).

Not sure if this is the right place, and apologies if this has been covered and I've missed it. I have trouble leaving reps from my iPhone. I can leave a blank rep, but no comment. It used to be that if I fiddled with it long enough, it would eventually work, but not now. As soon as I try to enter text in the little rep box, it disappears. It only happens on my iPhone; I can leave comments fine on a pc. Is there something I can do? For a short while recently, when I left reps, it would go to an entirely different page and then go back when I was done. That worked for me every time. I would love to be ever more generous with reps, but I post from my phone probably 99% of the time.
