Anyone remember a deal for a free shell gas card??

I guess the title asks my question. Perhaps it was a freebie or a "sign up for a chance to win..." sort of thing. My MIL received a $10 one (shell gas/gift card) in the mail, didn't keep the letter, then asked me if I sent it to her. :shrug7: I sometimes send her freebies but don't remember doing this one. Before she uses it I wanted to make sure it was legit and such. When I asked her what was on the envelope all she could remember was that it said, "Redemption. There was no letter. The envelope said redemption on it . . . yeah, redemption, but there was no letter." She kept repeating that word, or something like that, as if it made sense the more she said it ... it didn't help much. Love the woman, she just doesn't pay attention sometimes. I asked her again about the letter, but she was sure there wan't one. That sounded very curious to me so I thought it best to come to ask about it. They don't have a rewards card or a frequent shopper card. (I asked that too.)

I thought perhaps there was another thread besides "freebies" that I should post this in but I couldn't remember where. If anyone remembers this, please let me know. I searched and came up with zilch. Searching the internet also brought up nothing. Thanks.

Could it possibly be from cashing in MyPoints? I think 1400 gets you a $5 gift card, so maybe 2800 points for a $10?

There was a sweepstakes not too long ago but I believe it was for $5 cards.

Shell had a scratch card promo last fall (sept? Oct?). I f you didn't instant win on the card, you could enter codes online to try to win. Gas cards were part of that. I never won anything. pffft

Also when you get a Shell credit card, there were (are?) promos for buying x number of gallons in a specific time period, get a rebate, like $25 or so.

Maybe it's one of those things.

It couldn't be MyPoints as I haven't cashed in any points and they have never heard of it. Hopefully it wasn't from them getting a credit card. (We don't need that hassel right now.) As for a test drive, that could be possible. Or even the sweepstakes. What are the chances that Shell decided to give out $10 cards instead of $5 ... guess I can keep dreaming that that would happen. :)

That is what I was afraid of so I was hoping she would hold off on using it. I read the back of the gc which didn't say anything about it meaning that the user would be required to then pay each month, just the normal "can't be redeemed for cash, can only be used at shell stations,etc" wording. Usuallyn when I get stuff like this it is a check with a long letter attached and the check has fine print on it. The card didn't have any of that. Just wish she had kept (or read) the letter that must have come with it. Maybe there really wasn't one ... but then that would be even stranger.

Seems like no one remembers this. Wonder what else it could be from. I doubt they just randomly send out gift cards. If so, I want to sign up for those.

I guess I'd call Shell corp (not the # on the back of the card incase its fraudulent) and explain that your "elderly" parent got this card and dosn't remember any stipulations or where it came from. Maybe they can assure they sent it out or better yet, replace it with a for-sure valid card?? :) Big wish, I know. :)

Did it come w/ a whoopi cushion? I cot one with awhoopi cushion and it turned out it was from a promo for GAC.
