Re: Triple Q's 4/25 Again
Okay, guys....IF we still have a Food World to go to within the next two weeks, there will be at least one more three day triple. It will either be a Thursday, Friday, Saturday thing, or a Friday, Saturday, Sunday one. I would bet on it being the weekend of Mother's Day, May 10th, if Food World survives.
The latest I've heard, and you can get the saltshaker, is that the Union is threatening to strike, stores are to be auctioned off if no buyer is found by the 28th, and that numerous buyers have looked but not bought yet. Don't know what to believe, so I guess we'll wait and read about it on the news.
Try to keep a few dollars put back, for IF the stores close, they've got to sell everything that is in them. I guess those who saw the Bruno's stores closing down can elaborate on what happens as to the pricing of the contents.
Its such a shame, what has been done to the Bruno family's dream. The company has been bought and sold over and over, and each new owner running it a little further into the ground. It hurts to watch a great Alabama tradition die.

Re: Triple Q's 4/25 Again
It makes me sad too! I really like my store (except for the one manager who hates coupons--LOL!) But I guess I can look forward to a couple of more great shopping trips before it's all over!
DD and I went today and got some deals. We didn't do as good as we did the first time around with the free crescent rolls and $.29 Nesquick, but the stockpile looks a lot better now!

Has everyone read the article in today's Birmingham News Money Section, re: Bruno's/Food World?
The News has pretty much written them off.
Sounds like the best we can hope for is that someone buys each individual store (example: XX company buys the Pell City store, and another XX company buys the Hueytown store, and so on) and rehires the folks working there now. Not much chance of that happening, in reality, as any new owner will not want the Union and the Union's wages and benefits.
Save your shopping bags and items with "Southern Home" on them, they may be collectors items someday. I've been saving the ads, putting them back for showing to folks years from now and reminiscing about what once was.
