Adventures in Grocery Shopping
Wannabefree and I found many, many deals and coupons in the store yesterday.
She's still finding them, and I can't see them if you hit me over the head with 'em. All the way from produce to dairy to frozen, there are blinkies, tear pads, blinkies, and red tags for immediate sale. We both got a tub of cottage cheese for .97 cents with all the red tags and the peelies right above it. It was $4.something shelf price.
Hit the right day and you'll find milk, eggs, produce, cheese all red tagged for quick sale. Now, I don't know what the magic formula is, other than going in every day in the morning and doing a quick run around the store.
As Janet said, they are not selling a lot of product, and it is not moving, so it is red tagged on the next to the last day of the expiration date. I've been in early in the morning when they are running full buggies of produce to be thrown out through the register to record how much loss they have with it.
It is bad. One lady has an arrangement to come in and get some of it to feed to her hogs. They ought to be some fat ones.
Catch the milk on markdown and take it home and put it in the freezer.
The store manager himself was out stocking shelves the other day. He's learned who I am, now, and we chat a bit. I don't envy him his job. Got to be high stress, caught between corporate wanting results and customers wanting lower prices.
The store remains clean, neat, and orderly. The folks working there are still friendly, helpful, and love to stop and chat with you.
I am chomping at the bit to get a payday and get to shopping. :hectic1: | |
