Pitting the cherries with a chopstick is a whole lot quicker than cutting them in half and digging out the pit. Though I have managed to give myself a cherry pittin blister.
Sad thing is that it really isn't a recipe... I just throw it together. Next time I make it I will try and jot down what I do. I need to do that with all of my "recipes". One day I'm sure my kids will want to know how to make this stuff. lol
My grandmother used to make some awesome stuff that I remember fondly from childhood. Only there are no recipes for them, and she hasn't cooked in a few years and doesn't remember how she made them.

We just got finished pitting about 9lbs. Mandi used the chop stick, I just pulled them apart and the pit fell out. We've got an 8qt container filled to the top.![]()
I was complaining to the manager at food lion today that they didn't carry the cherry pitters ( I would have bought it with my 360 coupon) and she said someone else used a straw...I am going to try that today since I have probably another 6lbs to pit before I freeze them.
Also I made the cherry crisp it was really good BUT, I think next time I will cut the cherries in half. I also used all butter instead of half butter half shortening...That was really good. I am going to make another today to give to a neighbor while I am making the jam.
