    DD3 Food 4 Less 12/02/09-12/08/09

    Hi everyone!

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, and that things have gone well for you the past few months! I've been too sick to post; sorry about that. But I've participated when I could around the boards. I see many other people have contributed. That's fabulous! It's wonderful to see a team effort. I'll give my shot at it this week.

    Here are some good-looking deals:

    Coupon Matchups
Prego 24-26 oz $1.78 - (need to find value) Prego Italian Sauce, Any 24 Oz. + 10-04 SS **Expires 12/05, so must buy by Saturday

Whole kernel canned corn, Kroger brand, 39c
Boneless beef chuck steaks or roast $1.77/lb
Pork end chops or roast $1.27/lb
Sanderson Farms boneless skinless chix breast $1.77/lb
Bar S Jumbo meat franks 98c

Fruit/Vegetable Specials (way cheaper than Ralphs/Vons on this front!!)
    Mangos 33c
    White onions 20c/lb
    Tomatillos 33c/lb
    Serrano peppers 49c/lb
    Cilantro 25c/bunch
    Radishes 25c/bunch
    Red Delicious apples 49c/lb
    Navel oranges 49c/lb
    Papaya 58c/lb
    Bulk long grain rice 33c/lb

**Great fruit salad tip: Take the sale oranges, mango, papaya, and dice them up. Add a dressing of equal parts lime/lemon juice and honey or agave or whatever sweetener you like. Add in a bit of torn mint leaves if you have them handy. It makes your fruit salad seem elegant. And for anyone who likes the flavor of a mojito, the dressing with the mint leaves has that kind of flavor. Delicious!

Sure, ocean_brez! My pleasure! Another tip I like:

Take several pounds of the the sale onions, chop them up, and put them in a freezer bag. They keep for months, and you only have to do the tear-inducing cutting once! Works well in just about any cooking recipe. And, it's cheaper than buying bags of frozen chopped onions, too. :-D

Ya know... I freeze garlic and peppers all of the time and I never thought of freezing onions. Guess what I will be doing sometime this week!

I am teaching DD10 how to cook and she cut her very first onion last week. She did good until the onion started burning her eyes so bad that she started crying for real. I felt so bad! But... being the trooper that she is, she finished cutting it all and then after taking a break, helped me cut the rest of the vegetables too.

I think it's wonderful that you are teaching her to cook, and good for her for being a trooper!

    Happy weekend!

Hot Button Haas Avocados 4/$1! Carrots 4lbs/$1! Mangos 33c! Fujis 57c/lb

I went to Food 4 Less tonight, and I scored some great bargains in the fruit and veggie department.

    For about $11, I got:

    8 avocado @ 4/$1
    6 mango @ 3/99c
8 Washington Fuji apples @ 57c/lb (my favorite!)
    2 celery @ 2/98c
    1 pineapple @ 76c/lb
    2 1bs carrots @ 4/$1
    3 cucumbers @ 3/99c

I feel like I'm forgetting something, but you get the drift! Also, FYI, their regular price on 1 lb of baking soda is 58c, which is way less than Vons or Ralphs! I was happy to find that out.

Anyway, check out Food 4 Less this week if you need great produce deals!
