i said gift box...and then i thought about how nice it would be to actually get the gift in a plastic storage tub...you can never have too many of those!! put a little homemade bow on top and that solves the gift wrap delima. (i also dont' like how wasteful it is). this year my goal is to try to wrap gifts in functional packaging, be it reusable bags, storage bins or a basket.

like pp have said...i would be happy to receive a gift in ANY form, although i prefer unopened packages so i can pass along what we don't need or dont' use. its so thoughtful of you to consider this!

I say diaper cake!
I got one at my baby shower & it was so adorable! I put it on a table in my daughter's room until she was big enough to fit into that size diaper, so it made for a great decoration!

I like diaper cakes, but I voted for a gift basket. They are easier to put together for the giver and easier for the recipient to to pull out all of the gifts to show off at the shower :)
I really enjoyed receiving a laundry basket filled with baby stuff at my shower 5 years ago. I still use that laundry basket!

I just had a great idea for gifts, rather than buying the throw a way gift bags, how about one of those reusuable grocery store bags. they cost about 1.00 and it would help the environment too! BTW, i love my reusuable bags, i put my coupon binders in them, food for camping/holidays, and of course groceries too!

I chose the box because I'd like the thing that's stuffed to be useful after the shower.

I personaly would want a basket full of baby stockpile goodies than anything else. that way I could use the whole gift, and not be waste full. Just my 2 cents.

I make diaper cakes and I know from experience, they are a HUGE hit! I am sure the gift baskets would be too but the cakes are just a different conversation piece and everyone including the mommy loves them!

That's not a bad idea! A lot of the upscale stores are selling them nowadays too, those bags seem to be a little more durable than the ones at Walmart/Kroger, but are still cheap.

As to the "throw away gift bags" I never do that unless the bag is ripped. Otherwise, I remove the gift tag (if it's been written in) and wait for an opportunity to reuse them.

I plan on making a little wipes, burp cloths (made from real cloth diapers embellished with fleece or flannel), and hopefully cloth diapers (I am big on not using disposables unless they are Tushies or gDiapers which are better for baby and the environment) cake with lovely stockpile stuff inside. If no cloth dipes, it will have baby towels and other needed baby stuff (jammies, etc).
My neighbor loved the embellished burp cloths, they are much more stylin than just using the fake Gerber prefolds, and the extra material ups the chances of mom and dad keeping clean clothes!
If not a 'cake' than a basket or a neat container. The container can hold all of the momentos from pregnancy and cards, newspapers from birth date and etc. Nice place to keep all of it and keep it nice.

Diaper cake!! I just love the look of them. It shows not only did you take time to buy these needed items, but you took time to make it something a little more unique. I know baskets take time too, but rolling each diaper for a cake takes a LOT of work! They make great centerpeices too for baby showers.
