Oh I like diaper cakes...but I am foo foo like that and love all the ribbions, tule, and fancy schmancy stuff.

I got a Moses basket full of stuff at one of my baby showers and it was done up beautifully. I also stocked up on a few moses baskets a while back when they were on clearance at walmart.com for like $12 or something like that and have filled them up with baby stuff and given them as baby shower gifts. They were a hit.

I recently did a laundry basket full of things or a bridal shower( I know we are talking about baby shower here, nut just though I would mention this). I went through my stockpile and added anything and everything you could think of that you would need for a home, laundry items, cleaning items, tissue, paper towels, tp,bandaids, asprin, air freasheners, ect...everyone loved it!

One of the best-packed gifts we received at DS's shower was a wrapped box filled with items. It was a group gift. We still use that box to store things in because the givers wrapped it in a theme we were using in his room.

I just bought an oval shaped wicker "laundry" type basket at Michaels yesterday and am planning on filling it with 4 pkgs. Huggies, 8 Huggies Wipes, Lotions, bath, bath cloths, toys and clothes. I hope I have enough room in that basket! lol

I love diaper cakes! I think they are just such a cute way to give diapers and accessories. I give them all the time and I dont know that I have ever ran across anyone who hasnt used the diapers because they were opened.

I like the clothes basket idea best. I hate the diaper cakes also, they are just strange to me. They just seem silly and are a pita to get home. (OK I know I am strange but I like my stuff sealed when it comes to a baby)

Ok here is my take...when I hosted my aunts baby shower. her sister my other aunt bought this hug I mean hug gift bag and must have spent over 150.00 filling with things for the baby (in my family showers only happen after the baby is born). like diapers clother toys picture frames. No one cared what was in the bag. Now I got my aunt stuff for the baby and stuff that was called the stay at home mom kit LOL it was a joke. I got her a tv guide, bon bons, soap diegst, parents mag...which she has since sub. too. I also got her the trail size things that moms like to carry for her diaper bag. and I got her a cook book to for thirty minute meals...what new moms need.

I don't think it matters what it come in I think it's the thought that was placed in it. yes I didn't spend much on my aunts gift but I also hosted her party which was pricey. But to see her happy and see that happy and healthy baby finally home was worth it. (the baby was early and about two months old).

Even if it's a box of basic things moms will love it. I can't tell you how many times I forget basic items when shopping with a newborn...I know I will do it again when this one comes. Also link to HCW would probably be great for any mom to be. LOL
