Laundry baskets are ideal. I agree diaper cakes look pretty but unwrapping things isn't much good unless they are using cloth diapers.

I'm putting together a couple of baby gift baskets. I bought some size 2 diapers and thought I'd split them to completely fill the last remaining space in the baskets. Should I just not put them in then? TIA

I'd put them in, especially if it makes your basket prettier or more stable. As long as the diapers stay clean, they are usable. I've known lots of moms who throw a couple loose diapers into their diaper bag so it's not like the only way a diaper is ever used is immediately after taking it out of a pristine package on the shelf.

I guess it depends on the recipient. I made a diaper cake for my sister in law. I know she loved it and has since used every diaper. She also got gift baskets that she liked that had loose diapers in them. She also used all of those.

I've made shower gifts out of my stockpile, and, as unattractive as it seems, I took a rather large box, and filled it to the brim with everything you could think a new mom would need. By the time the recipient got to the bottom, the box didn't mean a thing! I would like to think that the mom would be so happy to get the items they need, that having a pretty package wouldn't really make a difference.

I would be ecstatic with any gift I was given, no matter how it was given. I love the idea of the laundry basket - or some type of storage/stackable type thing. I suspect that is because we have very little space and every storageable opportunity is a good thing, imo! LOL.

I *personally* don't like the diaper cakes - but that is just me, and I'm completely okay with saying that I am weird. It isn't that they are open, I just don't like them. *shrug*

I prefer getting stuff in plain wrapping because I am weird. I really hate to think someone spent $5 on wrapping paper/bows/pretty baskets/etc. that I am just going to throw away. It absolutely drives me batty. I would actually prefer my gifts wrapped in the sunday comics or christmas paper purchased at 90% off.

Even if I did like the things wrapped up pretty, I think I would rather the giver spend the money on an extra bag of diapers than a pretty basket to put them in. The laundry basket is a good idea because it is useful.

This is the only site where I stand a chance of people understanding where I am coming from on this....

PS. Don't open the packages if you can help it. If, for any reason, she can't use it, it would be nice if she could exchange it (might be hard if it was stockpiled) or at least regift it.

I agree! I'd much rather have an extra pack of diapers rather than fancy gift wrap!

And YES! I love that people here understanding my crazy couponing and bargainhunting! LOVE IT!

When my best friend had her shower one of the things that she registered for was a baby bathtub. I filled it with all of the presents that I had bought for her. I had also made her a care bears quilt so I draped it over the tub and tucked it in and tied it off with a bow. She seemed thrilled with it.
