I think its okay to have a party for the baby, but I would do it after you have the baby and I would make sure to tell people no gifts. As my sister put it, "If someone wants to bring you something, they will no matter what you write on the invite!" I don't think its okay to have a shower before the baby is born or to put registered at...... To me, that's just asking people to buy you things. It seems like people who have showers for later babies don't really need much anyway and the stuff they want is always the outrageous stuff they wouldn't buy themselves.

i think you should have a shower for all babies!! and you cant just hand down everything. like ds's crib converts and follows him to adulthood so baby number 2 just gets stuck with whatever. thats crap! most of the things you truly need get used up and cant be saved , formula, etc. and who doesnt like a chance for everybody to get together like that. i have no other time where all my friends and all my family are in the same place.

When I was pregnant with my second child my mother had a "sprinkle" for me mind you my oldest was 2 1/2 years old so no big gap there. It was a very small affair but the gifts were plenty. My family/friends were kind enough to hold a diapers/wipes sprinkle (although I did receive some other gifts). They were very generous with the diapers - I went 4 months without buying diapers - and a few months without buying dreft BIG SAVINGS!!! My mom made a basket with the essentials I would need for my hospital stay (pjs, slippers toiletries).

So I say yes but keep the gift simple
This is what I think is best. Diapers and wipes showers for all children. If everyone brought diapers and wipes and you did not have to buy any for 4 months (or in my case close to a year) then the money saved on those items can buy the clothes needed or other things like that. I don't think it is tacky at all. JMHO.

What if the circumstance is that you had ZERO showers for baby number 1 and ZERO bridal showers, but your sister just got married and had FOUR showers, and you're expecting baby number 2 and still expecting ZERO showers.

Yeah, I'm irritated.

That is an excellent idea! It welcomes the baby and makes life a little easier in the upcoming days. Gonna file that idea away!

What on Earth would anyone DO with all the carp you would get from multiple showers anyway? Waste of money in my humble opinion.

I think all babies should be showered, too! LOL, at my baby shower, we got nothing I registered for and had to buy all the big stuff ourselves anyway. Not that I didn't appreciate what we got!
Things do break or get worn out, my DD is 7 months old and there are some things I wouldn't want to re-use if I didnt have to!

And every baby is special, and every baby deserves a nice showery welcome

I know what ya mean. Two people used our registry and that was it. We got no big items except those from my parents. And my aunt got me a diaper genie because she said just tell me what you want and save me the time and I handed her a coupon and said this please. LOL
We didnt get a bathtub or a boppy or even anything along those line of "big"
We got pretty much all clothes. And everyone said with boys you will get mor practical stuff and less clothes. Most of which were wrong season/size. Few of which came with reciepts.
We only got maybe 4 or 5 things of wipes and 2 things of diapers.
And there were a lot of people there and we really didnt get much else than clothes.
NOT THAT I AM COMPLAINING I was happy to get together with everyone and eat yummy cake :)
I really did enjoy it. I was just surprised b/c my two best friends were like oh you will get tons of diapers - one of them bought me a pack and someone else bought me a pack and that was it. But I know now not to trust those two girls they also told me that once I started to push my baby would be out in no time... 16 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing later I had a C-section.
LOL.
