I would absolutely send a gift, just nothing huge. It is a third baby, after all, but even third babies need some stuff that isn't hand-me-downs!

ok, this is what i think...lol
all children should be celebrated. doesn't matter if you have 10. But i think they should have a welcoming baby party type thing. not really a shower but more of a party for close friends and reletives AFTER the baby is born.

All babies deserve a shower. I had a shower with each of my 3. The hosts gift was the big item. The rest was small gifts like clothes, birthing cloths, and etc. I also received items just for me. Each shower is for the baby. Adults can't wear 6 mths clothes or ride in a stroller.

Now my showers didn't include anyone except close family and friends and all of mine were given by my family/friends/church. The ex's family didn't do anything for my babies while the other were given a family shower.

For my 2nd baby, friends gave me a cookout w/close friends & family. There were no gifts, but each guest was welcome to bring a frozen casserole, and let me tell ya, we appreciated those casseroles! I turned down an actual gift shower for all but my first babies, but I still love going to other peoples showers, no matter what the birth order!

LOL ..picturing you trying to squeze into a size 6 months...heeeehee
I think what the PPs meant (and what I was agreeing with) was that the shower is basically for the adults Because it means that they dont have to go out and spend as much $. There are many showers you go to and never meet the child. Most people have showers for the gift more than only to celebrate the birth. But for those that do it to celebrate and shower the baby I think thats great. Just saying most people think shower = gifts. KWIM?
I Love love love the idea if having a welcome baby party after baby is born and thn if they want to bring baby a gift thats fine too.
I think I feel like maree everyone has a different view so people should just do whatever feels right to them and if they invite someone they arent close to who feels like my mom they will get called tacky lol.

I think it's okay if your kids are far apart in age.

I say a baby shower for second baby is fine regardless of gap between the last child. As long as they don't go over board with the gifts.
When I was pregnant with my second child my mother had a "sprinkle" for me mind you my oldest was 2 1/2 years old so no big gap there. It was a very small affair but the gifts were plenty. My family/friends were kind enough to hold a diapers/wipes sprinkle (although I did receive some other gifts). They were very generous with the diapers - I went 4 months without buying diapers - and a few months without buying dreft BIG SAVINGS!!! My mom made a basket with the essentials I would need for my hospital stay (pjs, slippers toiletries).

So I say yes but keep the gift simple
