I dont mind the idea of helping out people. A baby shower is to welcome the baby! You can't say that each child after the first one shouldn't get gifts just because they are the second, or third or so on. Each baby is special and each one has its own purpose. I have been to baby showers for someone that has 4 kids...and I took a gift to each one. As you have more kids, money sometimes gets tighter and tighter...and more assistance may be needed. But a baby is a baby...no matter what number they fall into in a family. I don't have a baby shower and expect gifts. If they come good, but if not..it's a time to celebrate the baby and welcome the child into a loving and genuinely caring environment.

I also agree with Sammysmom (post on 2.7.08)...

And also...does it make a difference to you if the mother is having twins? What if she already has children (all young), and she is now pregnant with twins...do you think it's appropriate then? If so...what's the difference...one baby is just the same as 2. They all cost money and they are all great! No need to deny one of the right to look at pics later on down the line. My sone had one and I had one for my daughter. Everyone was happy to come and everyone was excited to be a part.

I was given a shower for both my 1st and 2nd. My boys are 11 years apart though, so it was alot like going through it for the first time all over again.

I also love love love to buy things for baby's. Something that is their own not a hand me down. So I personally dont have a problem at all being invited to a shower even if it is the 6th child. Nothing like celebrating the coming of a new baby

I agree!!!!! Every baby is special and should get a shower. When someone we know has a baby, I also make a blanket for every other child in the family. Most of the time the parents tell me their child carries the blanket around with them. Gives them comfort when they are feeling a bit left out.

I am also expecting #2 and my boys will only be 19 months apart. I don't want another shower, even though my sister has offered to throw one. In all honesty, THANKS TO HCW I am really well stocked on needed supplies, and since they are both boys, I won't be needing anymore clothes!

That being said, if I were having a girl, I might feel different. But to me, I agree with the pp's who have noted the shower is mostly about the parent(s).

My oldest is a boy and 10 at the time of my daughters birth 19 months ago and my mom gave me a shower. However, I am due in Sept. with a boy and she is not giving another. I hae a friend who insist that I have one and she will give me one because it has been 11years since I have had a boy.
