I got lots of "mom" advice over the phone from telemarketers...

Not necessarily advice, but my MIL did ask when I was getting rid of the cats as if it were something you did just because you were expecting.

I once had a nurse practitioner tell me that I didn;t need to wipe my DD every time I changed her diaper unless it was dirty. I asked her if she only wipes herself when she "dirties". Needless to say, we never went back there :)

Whether or not you believe in the cio method -

My sister told me that the reason my eight month old was waking up so much at night (called her after he kept waking up one night) was b/c I didn't let him cio before he went to sleep so he wasn't tired enough to sleep all night. Me, dummy I am, let him cry for like 10 minutes before I felt horrible, he kept waking again so I took him to the doc's and he had an ear infection! My poor little guy!

When I was pregnant, a lady at my church told me that I should be sure to tell my DH what I would want to say to my baby in case I died during childbirth.
(I lived outside of Atlanta, Geogia at the time, so not exactly a third world country or anything, plus I am a very healthy person who ended up with a great pregnancy with no complications.)

I got all kinds of unsolicited advice ranging from how to keep from "marking the baby" while I was preggo, to making sure he would be "independent" by not letting him sleep in our room when he was born.

Keep trying the same food even if they spit it out for the 100th time. They will never like some foods and giving it to them over and over again is only torture for ME. I hate like heck to have to mop the entire kitchen down everyday.

MIL told me to put Wild Turkey on their teething gums! Umm, I didn't do that! She even bought me a bottle when she visited. It's still sitting in the cabinet above the microwave, unopened! They are 10 and 11 now...I think I could use the Wild Turkey for myself. LOL

I called my hubby sobbing after our 3 year old was born. told him we were NEVER leaving our kids with his parents LOL.

In 30 mins, after me having a breech baby via c section (w/ a specialist on hand). they told me, ignore the specialist, pull on her legs and she'd be fine, (after being told leave her legs alone). Then, what did I mean I would not supplement breast feeding with sugar water, and my favorite, she would sleep throught the night if I put a little bit of whiskey in her bottle...

They have come a long way since then, but I was horrified!
