Was WHAT an accident? Was it an accident that I accidentally slapped you silly for asking a totally stupid question like that? It's not like I'm freaking ancient...I'm only 30 for pity's sake. |

(I lived outside of Atlanta, Geogia at the time, so not exactly a third world country or anything, plus I am a very healthy person who ended up with a great pregnancy with no complications.) | I had a woman at church tell me I should consider consulting my lawyer and draw up a Will for the same reason.
A lot of people who see my wedding ring are surprised to find out I'm pregnant with my first. When I tell people I got married at age 20, they assume it was because I was pregnant, so I couldn't have married so young and am only now having children... Right.

Right. | When my husband's parents found out we were getting married (he was 21 and I was 19--but was 20 by the time we were actually married) his mother assumed I was pregnant. The funny thing is that I got the impression that if I were pregnant they would have supported the marriage but since I wasn't we were too young and too poor and had no business getting married. His Dad even went so far as to predict to other relatives when the divorce would be. I never did find out when that is supposed to occur, but in a month we will have been married for 11 years.

| Re: What was the worst advice that you ever got as a mom (or dad)? I love my mother dearly...but as I have said before she drives me nuts.
She always has lots of great advice for me about parenting: First of all, before I had my son she said I shouldnt breastfeed. She said "those babies arent healthy and dont gain enough weight." I said oh yeah mom, God had it all wrong.
Then I told her I wanted to teach my son sign language to help him communicate with me better before he can talk. And she says "Oh no dont do that people will think he is stupid." What????
To her credit, she is doing a lot better with her strange advice giving and now agrees that nursing my son was a good thing.

This is a totally true story, I swear! (To put this in perspective, my DH's family is somewhat *ahem* more than "country" at times.)
We were visiting my FIL and MIL, and my SIL and BIL were there also. My neice was around 10 months old and she was chewing on everything and I was holding her. I asked if she had a teething ring in her diaper bag. I kid you not, my SIL went to the diaper bag and pulled out a rawhide dog bone and handed it to me. I just looked at it and asked what I was supposed to do with it, and she said, "That's what she chews on." WHAT?!?!?
They have two small dogs and SIL said that she got tired of trying to keep DN from chewing on the dog's bones, and she didn't like the teething rings, so she just bought her a new rawhide bone like the dog's and gave it to her instead. OMG
I just sat there in shock...I had forgotten about it until the other day when SIL (same one)and I were talking were talking to the minister's wife whose DD is teething right now and SIL told her to buy a rawhide bone that it really massaged the gums!
I have so many stories about my dysfunctional SIL and BIL I could go on for days....they are, well, I can't even begin to adequately describe them. |
Lmao, you need to sell these stories to Jeff Foxworthy!
