Default Anyone tried All In One Cloth Diapers?

I am almost to the bottom of my diaper stockpile but my twins are no where ready to be potty trained. I am considering cloth diapers. I have a friend who recommended Flips because they're inexpensive and she loves them. During my research, I have come across (on Amazon) BumGenius Elemental All In One diapers.

They're like disposables because they're all one piece, no inserts. The Elemental All in Ones have few reviews on Amazon but the BumGenius All in One Freetime on the Cottonbabies website have some not so good reviews.

I am wondering if anyone here has any experience with these and what you suggest. I need something quick that won't leak and am interested in cloth but I have no idea if these would be easier than inserts and covers or not.

So what do you think? Inserts and covers? Or All In Ones?

Cottonbabies.com has a great deal on Flips right now on sale for 13.xx plus BOGO free plus buy $50 or more and get a pack of disposable Flip inserts for free w/ code TRVLWME. I know lots of moms who love Flips and Bum Genius's I personally use Econobums with a prefold and snappi. Cheap and easy. I just got some Bumkins and Thirsties covers as well and they work gust as well. Bumkins has seconds you can buy on their website for cheap too. If you have a cloth diapering store near you most of them do classes where you can learn about all the different types/brands. That may be a good place to start.

I prefer flips, personally. They are light, they hold just about anything - low maintenance - fit lots of sizes of babies. Folding the pre fold isn't so bad. I have used the 4.0 diaper (the pocket one) and didn't like it at all. It held a nasty funk, and I take great pride in being able to clean anything out of anything, so if that says anything. Econobum is less expensive way to have a few extra covers, too. So far, in my experience, they have held up just as well as the flips - they are just more plain in color. As for the elemental - can I just say --- I thought about getting some of those, and then the thought of cleaning a #2 out of it kept me up at night lol!!! A lot of people REALLY love them though.

There are just so many different kinds. Who would have thought there would be so many to choose from?

When I was researching it and trying to figure out which ones to use, and with some that I tried (I got a sample pack, which I was able to return only having paid a small fee once I decided not to use them, I think it was from jilliansdrawers) - down side to AIO all-in-one is that they take a long time to dry. A lot more energy used in order to dry them. You have to buy more AIOs because you need one for each change (with a 2 YO not as often I know, but still a consideration). If a diaper is just wet I think you can reuse the cover and put a new inside into it.

Pocket diapers make this better because you can take the insert out, though you do have to wash both insert and cover after one use. Then at least the drying time is better. I wanted to go toward natural fibers, because in my research the synthetic fibers - microfiber - hold smells and are difficult to de-stink. Hemp might be a good one.

softbums were the one I was going to go with if I had decided to go with it. I did some math, and if I had invested in a whole bunch of diapers with my DD at 10 months, and assumed I was only going to use them on her, I would not have saved much money, if any. So... we kept going with disposibles. Now getting ready to have another baby, so could've used them again (if this baby is also a girl) but I don't really have any regrets about deciding not to do it.

I can feel your pain because my 2 1/2 year old DD is quite capable of being potty trained at this point, but she refuses to do #2 in the potty or toilet. REFUSES. If I push the issue she holds it for days.... tell me what I can do about that?

I have a few different cloth diapers that I like. I currently have BumGenius 3.0 (I bought these super cheap used on CottonBaboes.com), BumGenius 4.0 (got a deal on these as well. They were discontinuing a couple of colors), Bumkins (my least favorite & I wont buy more), gDiapers, & EconoBum (I got these BOGO on CottonBabies.com super great deal). My gDiaper & Bumkins are not One Size but all the others are. I love my EconoBum because they are really absorbent & I ALWAYS use them for overnight. The prefold takes longer to dry typically but I dont have leaks unless the prefold ends up sticking out of the cover & wicking pee out onto DDs clothes. You dont need to use a snappi with them but I'm thinking I may start. Stuffing the pocket diapers isnt really anymore work than folding the prefold. if you use flats thats a whole different story :) Regardless of which diaper I am using when I wash my dipes in the late morning/afternoon the covers are hung up (inside right now) & are dry way before bedtime. I recently started using cloth wipes as well. I love it! They clean poo off so much easier & faster than disposable wipes & I only use 1! I also don't have to fish the disposable wipe out of the laundry. You can get neutral colors of you are wanting to use them on any more kids you have. Or you can always buy gender specific colors & then sell them & buy different ones if you have a boy after a girl. I was really overwhelmed when I first started looking into this but once I got enough dipes & got my routine figured out it is super easy & not hard at all.

    This is pretty long.

I have been cloth diapering full time since my DD was a month old(had 2 in cloth for about 6 months and am about to have 2 in cloth again). Prior to that we cloth diapered DS on and off. I have tried several different brands/styles/types of diapers and can give you my review of those diapers.

BumGenius Freetime – Not one of my favorites. First off my DD can an allergy to suedecloth(the stay dry layer that BumGenius uses in their products). I also don’t like microfiber in diapers. No matter what I wash it with, how I wash it, nothing makes the stink stay away. The rinsing of this diaper is not fun either because the flaps are at both ends of the diaper.

BumGenius Elemental – I actually really liked this diaper until DD started peeing too much for it. I love that it is all natural fibers on the inside. It washed really clean everytime also. It took a little longer to dry, but not an extremely long time.

BumGenius 4.0 One Size Pocket Diaper – I am not a pocket diaper person. I don’t like stuffing them, and I really don’t like microfiber. Again my DD was allergic to the stay dry material in the pocket

Flips Covers – I liked them at first, then the elastic relaxed a lot in the legs of ours and DD was leaking out the sides.

Flips Stay Dry Inserts – They worked alright at first for my DS(when he was diapered) but they don’t hold a lot.

Econobum covers – My favorite BumGenius product…crazy that their least expensive I think is their best. We’ve had these covers for the same length of time as the Flips Covers and these are still holding up very well. They are a fuller cut and fit great over a padfolded flat or even a pinned/snappied on flat or prefold.

Econobum Inserts – Super absorbent. We used these for overnight on my DS when he was a super heavy wetter and they held up amazingly well.

Rumparooz Pockets – Really like the double gusset on the legs, but they have a low rise and again pockets aren’t my thing. They also have a microfiber insert which I don’t like

Rumparooz One Size Covers – These have held up really well. They are double gusseted on the legs and keep all the mess contained. They are a full cut and fit great over pinned/snappied flats/prefolds. The elastic seems really tight on them, but they don’t leave marks on the legs at all. The customer service leaves a little to be desired, but the product is good.

GMD Prefolds – These are the special sized prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers. They have a different sizing system then the standard so you get a customizable fit. They are very absorbent and soft.

Blueberry OS Coveralls – These are brand new to use and we’ve only been using them for 3 days. I LOVE them already. They are a fuller cut cover and fit great over pinned/snappied flats/prefolds. They are really trim also and have double gussets on the legs for containment.

Little Lions Flats – Out of business now, but these are super absorbent, soft and versatile. Flats are my new LOVE. I can fold these into a padfold and lay in a cover(makes for easy diapering when Daddy has to change them) or I can pin/snappi it on and get a customized fit/absorbency depending on what the diaper is needed for.

Swaddlebees Flats – Super cute prints, Soft, and again versatile.

Receiving Blankets – Yep, those blankets you have a million of laying around, make great diapers, very absorbent.

GMD Flats – Flats from Green Mountain Diaper. They are super soft and absorbent. They have 2 different sizes so you can get smaller ones for little babies or bigger ones for older toddlers.

Now what we currently use: We are using strictly flats(Little Lion, GMD, Swaddlebees, Receiving Blankets, and soon to add Mommy Made Bamboo) with some newborn and preemie prefolds as doublers for DD. We use Rumparooz Covers, Econobum Covers, and Blueberry OS Coveralls on DD.

Our stash for the new baby due in June consists of flats, some of the Blueberry Mini Coveralls, Mommy Made Fleece Covers, Mommy Made EzDipe2 Fitteds, and Mommy Made Quick Snap Flat Wraps).

After everything we’ve tried the flats w/covers are the simplest stash we have had and I am the most happy with it.

Wow foggierbard9, you are hard core with the flats! I always thought I would end up going with prefolds or flats just because of the ease of cleaning, durability, etc etc. Natural fibers too, love those.

I have a friend who uses cloth and she loves Blueberry. They are a little pricier, which isn't a big deal to her, but they are nice and I think they do run occasional, fairly predictable sales.

I have tried a lot of diapers, given some to people who were in need and sold off others to buy new stuff. I never thought I would go with flats, but now I won't pick anything else.

Yes the Blueberry and Swaddlebees diapers are a bit more expensive, but they are made in the USA from mostly US grown/made fibers. IF the fiber they are from another country they are shipped here as fibers and made into the fabric in the USA. I think, for me, the extra is worth it because of them being a US product and because they are so well made.
