When did you move your LO to a big boy/girl bed?

DS1 moved from crib to twin bed at around 2yo. My brother built him a wood race car twin size bed. We had a little trouble the first week but then he was fine. I didn't want to buy another crib and DS2 was in the oven. LOL

DS2 got to pick out his own toddler bed at 2 (I think). I had to do a toddler with him since I was moving him in to DS1's room and with the big bed my brother made there really wasn't room for another twin bed. DS2 is now 4 1/2 so I will have to get bunk beds for them soon.

My son did not move out of his crib until well after he was 2 years old. He has always been very agile and athletic, so it was strange that it took him so long to decide to climb out. I guess he was always happy in his crib. At that point we put the crib side down and showed him how to step onto his toy chest to get out safely. Shortly after we moved a toddler bed into the room and let him choose when he was ready to make it his new bed.

My son I think was about 2 1/2 or younger. Can't remember exactly. But we had to keep a safety lock on the door so he wouldn't get out in the middle of the night and rome around. Granted our doors are not even a foot apart and i slept with the door open and i hear everything. (apartment).

We moved our kiddo to a toddler bed when she was potty training. She was around 18 months. We thought that if we wanted to be successful at potty training, she would need to be able to get out of bed and go when she needed to.
