    Default Alimentum?

    Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone uses Similac Alimentum. We go through 30-31 bottles of RTF a month! it's costing more than $300 because our son can't use the powder. Similac sucks at sending us coupons. The best deal i have found and it's not a regular thing is Babies r Us giving a $10 gift card if you buy 3 cases.

    Any deals out there?? Coupons?

    Thanks!

Have you tried to get your insurance to cover some of it? If your child really needs it, have the doctor write a prescription for it and buy it through a pharmacy.

    Have you tried WIC?

    We found insurance impossible.

We purchased a lot of coupons and checks on ebay. You can also purchase on craig's list as well. Some Freecycle groups will let you specifically ask for a specific brand of formula coupons.

Also ask for samples from your pediatrician when you can. Look in the clearance section of your stores..and even amazon technically was cheaper then purchasing full price at the grocery store.

    I feel your pain.

    HUGS!!!

I second what MrsPineCone said. It has been a few years, but when my niece was an infant she had to have it for her Alpha One & thankfully insurance covered it once the doctor wrote an RX.

Like Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency? If so, I have never heard of anyone else having it except my MIL who passed in 2000. DH is a carrier, and we've had our kids checked as well. Whoa.

DD2 was on Alimentum, and it was covered by our insurance company. Ask your doctor if that's possible. Our office did all the leg work about getting approved, and I submitted receipts every month for reimbursement. We also got an extension to have it covered to 15 months old since she still needed it. It was not worth it for one second to buy checks and coupons to chase sales. I found a place online that sold it at the price I would pay after checks and sales, so I went with it. Do a google search for alimentum rtf, and see what you find.

Thanks everyone. Insurance will not cover it for us. Just moved Doctor's so i will check in and see if they can offer any advice. We also do not qualify for WIC.

For a while it was cheaper through Ebay etc but lately shipping costs even it out to be the same or more than going to BRU.

It's sad that they feel the need to price is so high in the first place. It costs more to feed my son than it does to feed me each month!

I suppose this is not what the formula company "wants" you to do, but here among my friends those of us who BF get formula checks and all give them to the people who FF. Then they are free. Do you have friends who also have babies or at least young children who could sign up and then give you the checks? Amazon Mom has the 30% off Subscribe and Save, can't you do that on Formula too? They have free 2 day shipping, if they do in fact carry that formula.

You can get subscribe and save but not 2 day shipping anymore. Amazon stopped the prime shipping for s&s items. They do carry Alimentum, but it doesn't look any cheaper right now. It's still about $9 for a quart of RTF.

I find Similac checks to be so inconsistent. My sister signed up at the same time I did when I was preggo with DD1. I got a million and a half checks, and she got the sample pack and nothing else.

How about diapers.com? Not sure if they are any better...but I would think there are codes and such you could trade for?

The only thing we found amazon cheaper with was that at the time I think we didn't have to pay tax or something along those lines. I was pretty desperate that week.

We did cans of nutramagin. And I would pay about $25 at the store...so my goal was paying $20...that was about as cheap as I could get it by various means..and it still sucked rocks.
