Unless things have changed, when I had WIC, I had to do the order separate from my other groceries, so adding waffles was a no-go b/c it wasn't listed on the check. I was able to use coupons on cereal, cheese or juice (depending on brand/price) or a coupon to save off milk or eggs wyb cereal would have been ok, as long as the cereal brand was on the list.

yeah I know what you are asking I was trying to use the save $1.00 on fruit wyb 2 kelloggs cereal peelie that was attached to the box hte girls were so confussed on ho to do that because like pp said not being on the ic check I was getting the corn flakes on my sons wic check but the fruit was not listed. They did ring the fruit seperatley and took $1.00 off that way it as the only way the senior cashier felt comfortable ringing it up beacuse she didn't want to jeprodize the store not being reimibursed for the wic transaction. It is a tough question I definitly like it when the store sale is b1g1 on cheese 8 oz brick cheese instad of getting 1 pound I am able to get 2 pounds but this has not been a sale in almost 6 months were a seriouly low on cheese. :(

It really is YMMV type of thing! It depends on the Q, the store, how the register reads it. If the Q is connected to an item not on WIC, in therory it should work. Say "save $1 on eggos WYB eggs". In this case the Q is for the eggos, not the eggs so it SHOULD attach to the eggos. In your case where the Q is reversed it most likely will attach to the milk, on the bottom of your reciept it was show "milk $2-$1.00". If it's a Q that you're ok with losing and you may have been buying the item anyway then try it out.

I think the only exception for these type of items is at Randalls. They have changed their systems and they're super hard to understand the reciepts now so IDK if this exception has changed or not, since I have not tried this since before the change. I have purchased cereal several time while on some sort of promo and used Q's and those times they were taken off my total rather than off WIC.

    for example
    Promo- B4G$4 off (cereals)
$2.00 x4 (lets say this is price after promo)
    -2 $1/2 Q's
    -$6.00 for wic items
    =.00

The only other time I would use Q's with WIC is for frozen fruit or veggies. (say steamfresh). And again I would usually only buy those on promo since I would prefer to use the ammount given on fresh items. This always works since these items you're given an actual $ ammount rather than X number of items. Here's the thing with using Q's on fruit/veggies, if the register does recognize the Q to attach to the item then the Q will come off the WIC ammount, if it doesn't attach then it will come off the rest of your total. Either way, you still recieve the discount, you just have to pay attention to where it was applied. (this is important because with WIC you can not pay the difference if you fruits/veggies go over the ammount on your card.)

Another example JIC you're not familiar with how this part of the card works.

    You buy:
    Banana's for $.59
    Onions .89
    Mushrooms $1.49
    = 2.97

You only have $2.10 left on your card...the register SHOULD pick up the first two items because you're still under your balance, you will pay the full $1.49 for the mushrooms. WIC will not give you the remaining .87 to use towards the mushrooms. :( (Weird, right) I usually have to buy 1 small banana at the end of the month when I have like $.17 left. LOL This is where watching your Q's on this part will be important, because if you have $5 in frozen Veggies, $2 in Q's and only $3 left on WIC, all items will come off if the Q's apply to them, if not you're stuck paying for whatever item(s) make you go over the balance.

Sorry, I know this is a lot of info. I hope it all helps. :)

(ETA: I see that other states still have the paper slips? In Tx we have a card, it works like a debit card and you do not have to seperat WIC items from other items)

    YES

but most of the time it's not helpful for you...but it saves the state some money.

for your juice or cereal you can use a coupon. If your at a store that is doing a bogo or if by chance you actually find a bogo coupon (I generally don't see them) for the exact right cereal or juice you can use them. Now if the store is doing it..then you should be able to get both of the bogo items. As for coupons, most of the time it's just going to help the state come off there total. **looks like you in Texas can get non WIC with WIC in the same purchase...lucky!!! in general though most states are not like this...booo**

NOW for the fruit and veggies...is where it can be helpful..because you can get your total down more and so you can get more for your $6 or $8 bucks.

And yup for those not in Texas...still using paper checks...you won't be able to do things like get the eggo's.

You can use coupons on the wic items to save the state money and maybe help others be able to get wic. BUT you can not use a buy this and get this coupon on wic items for the wic cards will not let your ring up the item that is not on the card or mine dont. Here if the item is not on the card the item will beep and ask for mtg's ok..

I asked my WIC rep about using coupons to save the gvmt $ & because I have them & like to us them & she was like "what? why? don't bother". You would think that would be encouraged. However I have had a few cashiers check the maximum allowable dollar amount for the paper check (ex total of purchases can not exceed $20.25 for the eggs, bread, milk, grains etc written on the check). SInce you can buy organic now which is usually pricer & not on sale, using a coupon may reduce your total enough to prevent being rejected at the register & sent back for a cheaper brand product. SO if I use the $1 coupon on my cereal I can get the more expensive brand lentils.
My question is: Why doesn't WIC allow ORGANIC milk? Of all things I'd like to eat organically, milk is on the top of the list.

in OR we get a $10 voucher for fruit and veg. I use my coupons on this voucher to get more bang for my buck , so to speak. for the other vouchers I don't see the point as i can only get a specific amount of listed items.

You can use coupons on WIC items, they encourage you to do it. But since those are ''free'' for you, why use your coupons? Yes, I know they are not 'free' and are paid for by the state, so please....don't jump on me for it.

I used to use my $1.00/2 kelloggs frosted mini wheat coupon for wic....why not...I wasn't going to use them for myself...I only use $1.00/1 for me

When you save the state money....they don't run out of WIC money by August..and change everyone over to only generic stuff....BTDT.
