    QUESTION Fenugreek?

Hi, ladies (and men, perhaps; I don't want to exclude anyone!) I know there are many HCW members who breastfeed, so I'm hoping at least a few of you have looked into (or actually used) Fenugreek to boost their supply. I'm looking for the cheapest place to buy Fenugreek capsules (either online or in store, but I don't go too many places these days with a 3 month old!). So, can anyone point me in the direction of cheap Fenugreek capsules that are sold by a reputable place/manufacturer? Any help is greatly appreciated!
I'm trading again, but sometimes it takes a few days for me to respond with an infant in the house!

I never tried fenugreek, but have you tried oatmeal? The real stuff, not the crap in the packets. I had a bowl every day when I was bfing and I noticed a distinct drop if I skipped a day.

Drinking insane amounts of water also works well. I had a 32 oz cup that I refilled all day.

My left side tanked early both times. I nursed DS excusively on one side from 9-14 months and DD from 7.5 months to 18 months.

I used it for awhile and it definitely does boost supply. It was recommended to me by the lactation consultant and the lady I talked to at LeLeche League. I usually bought it at GNC as it wasn't that expensive (about $8 for a bottle of 100) but they have it at Rite Aid (the GNC kind) and it sometimes goes on sale BOGO. Biggest (and only in my case) side effect was the smell. They actually use fenugreek as an additive when making maple syrup (or that is what I was told) and that is exactly what it smells like. Consequently, so does your breast milk, your pee, and your baby's breath, LOL. Too bad I HATE maple syrup!!!
My wishes, hopes, and dreams (so far as coupons go, LOL)

I also bought it at GNC. It was a good value for the money. :) I also heard about oatmeal. Too bad I hate oatmeal so I ate Cheerios (the plain kind) everyday for breakfast. There is also Mother's tea that is like a teabag. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your responses! I think I'll try a combination of things to see what works for me. I'll attempt to rep all of you!

I got mine at rite aid too on bogo. I also ate oatmeal twice a day ad drank mothers milk tea. It boosted my supply, but not enough, so I take an rX med too.

Have to ask La Leche League about the supplement.. little dude isn't due for 11 more weeks, so who knows if we'll need it! but good to know there is something out there ya can take OTC! I have to go back to work asap, hopefully after 6 weeks, so anything that can help pump will be appreciated.

    Gato-

I recommend that you try the fenugreek caplets and/or organic mothers milk tea when you bring the kiddo home. Also, see if a friend can bake you some lactation cookies. Anything to help boost your supply. You can always freeze extra milk!

You know you've take enough when you smell like maple syrup, and the kiddos diapers will smell like maple syrup too!
