Default How many glue sticks and 24 packs of crayons for a 1st grader?

I just got our school supply list and want to make sure I stocked up on enough for the school year while the prices are so low. So how many 24 packs of crayons and glue sticks are needed for the whole school year for a 1st grader.

Can you ask the teacher? It really depends on what activities are planned and how often the supplies will be used.

I would probably do 3 packs of crayons and maybe 6 or so sticks of glue.

We don't find out who his teacher is for another week. I am price matching crayola from K-Mart and glue sticks from Target and today is the last day to do that.

I only needed 2 boxes of crayons when my son was in K. The crayons were put in a communal cup that the table shared (there were 6 kids per table). My son is now heading into 4th grade. 1st grade, the teacher would send home a note that X supply needed to be replenished. 2nd grade on, the supply sheet just said that anything with a * were to be replenished as needed. Anyway, with that said, last year when he was in 3rd grade, he got a new box every quarter b/c they did a lot of activities that used crayons. So I would go with 4. I will say though, that when he started pre-k, I bought 20 boxes at .05 each and wish I would have bought more!

my ods is going into K this year and his supply list called for 4 boxes of crayons and 30 glue sticks. That seems like an awful lot of glue to me but what do I know. If you want to buy this week because of the sale, you can always estimate high and then return anything that the teacher does not request.

ETA: I agree with the pp that I always buy my art supplies for home at this time of year when the prices are low so don't forget to take that into account when you buy.

I will say that those cheap glue sticks really don't last very long. I was disappointed. I guess that's why they're $0.10 for 2 of them! I am planning to get a whole bunch of them (at least 20) for this school year (1st grade also).

Could you tell me where you are getting for that price? thanks

I just saw a list and they asked for 18 glue sticks. which really only translates to 2 per month which I dont think is so much. I have some from last year and they are still fine. Same with crayons (well except for the box that got left in the car and now is one solid crayon block)

I would too. And make sure you have some at home. My daughter had homework in the 1st grade and always needed these things at home. She had a little plastic garbage can full of odd crayons but they were never the colors she needed for homework.

She always managed to lose the black and red ones. I didn't lose mine but they always got used up first. And for some reason she always broke the green one. So one box was never enough. And if 3 is too many there is always the year after. Chances are they will still need that same amount.
