Default When is bedtime at your house?

I am trying to get my 5 year old into a bedtime routine before kindergarten starts in a month. The recommended amount of sleep for his age is 10-12 hours per night, and he will need to be up at 7AM. His 20 month old brother set his own bedtime long ago and happily goes to bed at 8PM. I was toying with the thought of 8:30PM for the 5 year old, which I can always adjust back if he has trouble getting up at 7AM.

I'm looking forward to quieter evenings, but not to the battle I see looming.

My girls are 3.5 and 2, and they go to bed at 8pm pretty much every night. It's a bit later if we're out somewhere, but if we're home, 8pm on the nose.

What time does he go to bed now? One thing my mom would do is start setting bed time earlier a couple weeks before hand. So if the idea bed time was 8pm and we were going to bed at 930, every few nights bed time would move up 15 minutes until we got to 8pm. Didn't feel so bad then. You should also start getting him up earlier to prepare him for school doing the same thing - wake him up 15 minutes earlier when you push up bed time. How exciting to start kindergarten!

Well my kids are a bit older...my 9 year old goes to bed very late in the summer (around 11-12 am) and then sleeps in. DS goes to bed when he wants in the summer. During the school year they both go to bed at 10 pm and DS gets up at 6:15 am and DD at 8 am for school.

When they were little they would go to bed around 8-8:30 p.m. I am going to start getting them back into the school year routine starting this weekend.

My 6 year old (starting 1st grade) goes up for bed at 8:00, is "put to bed" by 8:30 or 8:45.

Haha...most nights it's when he crashes.

His father doesn't go to work until noon, so DS5 usually sleeps in. He was getting up about 7:45 during the school year to go to preschool, but it was always a struggle to get him in bed and then back up in the morning.

He's eager to start a bedtime routine though, as he thinks it's a big kindergarten deal.

My 11 yr old DD had gone to bed about 10PM during the school year, but she didn't have to be up until 8AM. This summer she has been doing more like 10:30PM and getting up around 9AM. School starts for her in less then 3 weeks, and she has a new schedule and will have to start getting up around 6AM. I am not looking forward to it!

My kids have bedtimes according to their age....Under 8 goes to bed at 8. 8 & 9 they go to bed at 8:30, 10 & 11 go at 9. 12 until HS 9:30. High schoolers get to pick their bedtime knowing the first time they do not want to get up, then it is set at 10. I only have 1 HS student, starting 12th grade, and he has never had a hard time getting out of bed......lol. They all start waking up at 6:30 and HAVE to be at the breakfast table before 7.

My 10 year old goes to be at 8 to read for 30 minutes then lights out at 8:30. My oldest is 16 and she is usually out by 10pm on school nights.
