I was 22 weeks along with my newest addition when I found out. We had no clue!
I was on Nuva-Ring so I was used to skipping multiple periods. I actually lost weight -that is what sent me to the doctor. I all of a sudden (like in a week) lost 5-10 lbs for no reason - I had not been sick, was eating normal, etc.
In the time between conception and finding out I traveled to Houston, TX for business, went on a cruise to the Bahamas, spent three weeks traveling for work (Iowa, Japan, Iowa - we live in NC) and who knows what else. Plus I am 39 and a Type 2 Diabetic who was not being the most diligent about my health.
I was terribly concerned from finding out until my ultrasound 2 days later about the condition of the baby because of how I had lived. Even when the GYN (this office did not do OB) got me scheduled for my ultrasound she told me I should bring my husband and when the office called to confirm the appt the next day they referrd to it as a viability scan. I was relieved when the utlrasound showed a very healthy baby boy.
I have a 14 year old so I have been pregnant before. I guess I was just living such a hectic lifestyle that I did not notice any of the symptoms - no morning sickness, no breast tenderness, no weight gain. The fatigue was easily written off to jet lag, staying up too late, etc.
I delivered at 39 weeks so I affectionately referred to the pregnancy as my 17 week pregnancy.
I had my tubes tied when I delivered so hopefully no more surprises (I know it is not 100% but it is the best odds I know of).
The one scary thing I leared was that a doctor does not have to accept you as a patient if they have never seen you before. I was turned down by one of the two practices in town. I did not want to go to the other one at first due to a bad experience with my first born but it ended up working out. I thought I was going to end up having to go to the 'clinic'.
