I don't think you are too young...our bodies are made to have babies in our twenties, I know many people like to wait but that is not for everyone. Losing weight will also help your fertility. I had my first at 23 and yeah I was young according to cultural standards but I don't normally follow cultural standards anyway. I do agree with others loing weight will mean an easier pregnancy. I was slightly overweight prior to conceiving #2, but lost about 25lbs which put me right at my ideal weight and I had no complications at all, bp was always great, no issues, my dd came out a healthy 9lb 3oz and at term , no interventions all natural birth and if you wanting something like that, like a pp said you have to be in shape for walking, squatting and eventually pushing labor, it is like training for a marathon... good luck! I used the plan eat to live lose my weight, though I wouldn't do it long as it is vegan and I find my body doesn't do well on a longterm vegan diet...

Everyone has their opinion on when someone is "old" enough to have a baby. But i know people who are almost 40 havings babies and i'm more mature than them and more responsible. So to each their own. I'm 25 and have two kids and one is 3 so do that math their. I was married 6 months before i started trying to have kids and we were only together about 1 1/2-2 years before we got married. I do miss the quiet though but my kids will be out of the house when im still young enough to enjoy my "retirement". My mom isn't even 50 and i've been out of the house for 7 years!

Wait a minute. I did not say OP was TOO young, I just was saying to relax a bit.

For ME, it would have been too young. I had some living to do, career, grad school, etc.....that would never have happened had I had kids in my 20s.

However, I have dear friends who had babies in their early 20s and were perfectly happy to do so.

Everyone's opinion will vary about having a baby at a young age. i was 23 and 25 when we had our kids. One good thing about having kids at a younger age is when our youngest is 18 I will be 43, still fairly young myself. It is easier to have college out of the way before babies come along. I know since i am in college now. But either way do what makes you happy!

Get married first then baby. I had my first child when I was 25 second child when I was 27. Guess what! My second child who will be 29 this month STILL LIVES IN MY HOUSE. He is getting married next month and his house is not finished so the Mr. and Mrs. will be in MY house. I was an only child so I wanted a baby very much. Went to nursing school when I was in my thirtys and man was that tough with two children. I'm glad I went to school because my husband lost his job seven years ago. No jobs in my area. With couponing and my career we live a nice lifestyle. If you don't have a career get one first. You never know what situation you'll be in. Then have children.

Is your fiance is on board with your plan? Having medical insurance for the baby and you would, IMO, be a necessity, so hopefully that will be a given.

So im dieting and excersing and iv lost 20 pounds but its just not happeing fast enough for me. Anyway I just wanted to post!
I just wanted to comment on this.
I was nearly 400 pounds and 29 yrs old when I got pregnant with my son. It was a surprise pregnancy, for years I had been on fertility treatments and we had finally given up and started the adoption process (during which I gained nearly 50 lbs coming to terms with it all). I have always been overweight but healthy. I rarely get sick and am very active elementary school teacher. I worked up until the week before he was born. I had a wonderful pregnancy, my 6lb9oz baby boy was born perfectly healthy. I had him by c-section because he was breech and refused to turn. I have always had elevated blood pressure, every one of my family members does (even the skinny ones). It was controlled with medication the entire time and had no ill effect on my pregnancy.

My best friend was 160 pounds and 25 yrs old when she got pregnant with her daughter. She is a healthy, active, surgical nurse who got pregnant on her first month trying. She suffered every condition you can think of during her pregnancy. She spent multiple nights during various stages in the hospital, had preterm labor and eventually had preeclamcia/tomemia. She was on bedrest for 2 months. Long story short it was a rough delivery for her and baby. Her 5lb10oz baby spent 3 days in NICU, had to have phototherapy due to jondice(sp?), and oxygen.

All that was said to explain that it is not always about weight. I'm not abdicating you not try to loose weight, but I think believing you can not have a positive happy pregnancy when you are overweight is just incorrect thinking. I lost weight during the first 7 months of my pregancy, which is common for bigger moms. I lost because I was eating healthy for my son. Maybe instead of thinking about a number of pounds, you could think about a life style change for your family (you and bf). I say that because I continued to eat healthy for my son after he was born, because I want to be the best mom I can be. I have continued to lose weight.

Thumbs Up Re: I want a baby!!!!!

If you would have asked yesterday I would have gladly given you my boys! No questions asked!

Seriously, at 23 you are still very young (although I'm sure you've heard this before) and you taking the inititive to lose the weight is wonderful! Congrats on the 20 pounds -- that is easier said than done trust me. I had my first baby at 31 and my second at 36 and there are times when I still feel that I was too young to handle what these boys dish out to me! LOL

I too had to lose some weight pre-pregnancy. My OB asked me to because she didn't want me to run the risk of preclampsia/high blood pressure or become a high-risk pg. So, when I dropped 30 pounds and I got pg I ended up only gaining 6 pounds. By the time I left the hospital I actually weighed LESS than I did before I got pregnant! Hey, it happens.

As long as you stay healthy you should be just fine. Keep up the good work on the weight loss, too! Very proud of you!
