I waited until we got pregnant then started. It's giving me something to do!
I was able to get pregnant very easily with both of my children. We tried for close to 10 years for #3 and it never happened. We kept trying when the doctors told me that I probably shouldn't have another one. But when my doctors told me absolutely no way under the sun should I even consider another one, dh got fixed.
We kept the baby things for #3. I picked up some formula and baby clothes for cheap. I heard stories of people getting pregnant only after giving away all of their things, so I gave away our old things. Then I gave away the new things I'd bought. It broke my heart, knowing that dd would never have a sister - I have 2 brothers and SO wanted dd to have a sister. She loves her brother, I love her brother, I would have loved for him to have a brother, I was hoping for boy/girl twins. Anyway, if you can get them for free or very cheap, have room for them and are prepared for the possibility that you might not be able to conceive, sure, go ahead. But just giving away the things that we supposed to be for our third baby was really hard. Not as hard as wanting a third baby, of course, but just another reminder of it.

I bought two packs at wags today and im not even trying to concieve yet lol But they were cheap and it motivates me to loose weight so i can have a baby.
We stocked up on diapers after we found out we were pregnant with #2, then she was born and was allergic to ALL disposables...we use cloth, and I sold/gave away the diapers and most of them at a loss to me just to get them out of the house because they weren't of any use.

I guess the other thing too that some of you brought up was the idea of cloth diapers. I've thought of doing that (I'm assuming it's a WHOLE LOT CHEAPER than disposables!) when the time comes, but... yeah. Don't think I'll have the patience or the nose-- LOL!!!Plus, if I'm not wanting to be a stay-at-home mom, it might be hard to convince a sitter to do cloth diapers. I'm still thinking though that if they are ridiculously cheap, I may get brave and do buy a pack here or there of disposables. After all, I know I can always give them away to a nearby crisis nursery or my sister & sister-in-law!

I agree with this poster. This pretty much describes me. I'm a little paranoid. But I also can't really get $1 or less per package diapers where I am... I'm looking at $3-$5 at best. With DD, I didn't stockpile until 3rd trimester - didn't have a good pregnancy and was too busy with work stress. DS - I started stockpiling earlier (2nd trimester) but it wasn't as crazy since I could always buy the bigger size that DD was still using -- and still is, cause she's resisting potty training! (they are 2 yrs apart). With 2 high risk pregnancies, DD1 was super small and sizes were funky with her, DS was bigger but still small for a boy but used a different # of packages. A lot of NB size and very few size 1s, a bunch of size 2s and now in 3. I also heard that pampers works better for boys - but I don't know if it's really true. DD could use anything. DS hasn't taken too well to the store brands. So I'm really glad that I didn't stock up on Wag brand.
Wipes, I'm glad I stocked up on with DD - cause I'm using them for DS. Everyone asks if I'm done, and I don't know... DS is too young so the answer is no currently. We also have very limited space in the apartment so I won't stock up if I don't need it. It takes up too much space. I have a ton of size 3s and 4s since I know DS won't be pt'd until age 2 at least - got lots more to go. I'd recommend, if you have space and it's $1 or less, it'd be worth it to buy. If I were to stockpile sizes NB-2 again - it wouldn't be until after we are actually expecting.

I started stockpiling in January 2005 and didn't get pregnant until March 2006.
By the time DS was born I had about 75 packs of diapers and didn't have to buy diapers for most of the first year of his life.

I stockpiled for a year before we conceived our daughter, just a pack or two at a time when they were cheap. She was just born 2 weeks ago and I have at least a years worth of diapers and 2-3 years worth of wipes and other baby stuff. It's a lifesaver never having to make last minute diaper runs! I did have to buy more newborn diapers though because we weren't expecting her to be 3 weeks early.

If you are getting them really cheap then I say go for it. Before I got pregnant I saw great deals on diapers but I passed them up because I wasn't pregnant yet, now I am pregnant & am trying to stock pile before the baby is born & I can't find those kind of deals now :(
I wouldn't stock up on too many newborns or size 1 though, most baby's outgrow them in weeks.
Also, I ended up donating some of the diapers that I bought to tornado victims in Alabama, so that is always a thought if you wanted to do that. I know that when a person has lost everything they don't really care what brand it is as long as they have diapers for their child.

My son is 2 months old and I bought lots of diapers before he was born so I wouldn't have to spend so much later on. All the expenses that come along with a baby and a new mother after birth really add up, so already having a stockpile of diapers really helps to not add more flame to the fire.
Go for it!
