Default Essure.. has anyone had it??

Debating on getting the Essure but would love to hear from someone who's actually had it. I'm going to call the insurance company and see what if any they cover of it.

I am now 42 and childless by choice. I wanted permanent birth control and because I have never been pregnant, the iud was not a good choice for me when I came off birth control pills 7 yrs ago.

I had the essure done in August 2009 and LOVE LOVE LOVE that it was that simple. My regular doctor did not do it so I looked up a close doctor to me and only had to drive about 40 miles. I went for my yearly pap, had my consult and set up my appointment. My DH went with me and got to see the doc do the procedure. come to find out, I most likely would have never been able to carry a child because I have what this doc said was the smallest uterus he had ever seen, but also my uterus was heartshaped and my fallipen tubes are backwards.

I took a xanax and muscle relaxer, then got a shot in the behind and had it done. Walked out (to find 4 emergency voicemails from my 37 yr old sister who was driving herself to the hospital to deliver her first child the same time I was becoming childless), went to lunch at Chilis and had a beer with DH. I felt so good the rest of the day and had I not used a vacation day, I would have went straight back to work.

The confirmation test was worst than the orginal procedure but it was over in 5 minutes.

Now I do want to give you a word of caution about the billing of it. When I went to this new doctor, I didn't know 95% of his patients were medicaid. His insurance clerk called and found out that the procedure was covered for my speciality doc copay. HOWEVER becuase this doctor did not have his own confirmation team in office, I had to have this done at the hospital. Then I started getting bills telling me I had to pay my $1000 deductible. After weeks of going back and forth with the office and the hospital, I finally got the insurance clerk to admit she didn't know how insurance handled the confirmation test because I was the first patient that had *real* insurance this office had did this procedure on. SO MAKE SURE THE CONFIRMATION TEST IS DONE IN THE SAME OFFICE!!!!

I ended up contacting the company that makes this procedure becuase they recommended this doctor on their website and finally got this hospital to waive the deductible and just charge my copay. It took about 4 months to get that settled.

So basically I had this done for less than $90 (plus got $150 back from my supplemental cancer policy that pays for cancer screenings each year because he did my pap).

I would so recommend it for anyone that wants permanant and is not having their tubes tied immediately after having a baby.

Please consider it! I have had little more than a pap ever(did have leep procedure 15 yrs ago but that was no big deal either), and this test was no more uncomfortabel than a pap. If I had chosen tubes tied, I would have had to go under and that would have caused me to pay my deductible plus *go under*.

Good luck and if you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me!

OK, I was just researching this and I am coming across lots of women getting pregnant after the 2 year mark of having this put in. Im not talking one or two. Im talking hundreds of women. This is after they do the dye test to make sure the tubes are blocked. I will do some more research.

I read all that too and was terrified. I continued researching (and will try and refind this info) that most of those that did get pregnant didn't have a true confirmation (were told to come back and retake the test etc). I think statisically tubals still have a higher rate of pregnancy.
