Re: Big ol' baby! (Measuring big during pregnancy)
I was measuring big with my first (no gestational diabetes) and had a sono that measured my baby girl at 8lbs 8oz at 38 weeks. My midwife is a big believer that most often the baby grows to the size your body can handle. I went into labor naturally 5 days later and gave birth at home to a 9lb 10oz baby girl. I'm prego again (almost 20 weeks along) and expecting to have another big one, but I know I can do it!
The one thing I did do to prepare for a bigger baby was see a chiropractor to make sure my pelvis was as in line as possible. That gives you the biggest "space" for the baby to pass through that you can.
I agree with the previous posters that in my experience, bigger babies are usually much easier once they are born than tiny ones. Mine was a great sleeper, slept 8 hours at night at 2 weeks old, was a fantastic eater, rarely spit up, and was generally a very happy baby. I will gladly have all 9-10 lb babies if they are all like that!
I should add that of my hospital birthing friends, 3 were told they had giant 9+ babies and encouraged to have early c-sections or induce, and they all had 7lb babies. So you never know for sure until they come out.
