    Default Diaper Stockpile for Twins

I have never posted on HCW before, but have read and learned a ton, so any help would be appreciated. I am having a set of Boy/Girls twins in March, our first babies, and have started to diaper stockpile with my amazon coupons. Any advice on how many newborn, size 1, size 1-2 diapers to buy? I am pretty sure they will be small, but have no idea what to expect. Also can I put a size 1 diaper on a 6lb baby? Will it be too big???

My daughter was born at 5lbs 15oz and she was in preemie diapers in the hospital and for about a week at home. Then newborn until she was about 2-3 weeks. She was only in size 1s for a week before we switched to cloth diapers(she ended up with bad rash from all brands of disposables).

To figure # of diapers a day, go with 10-12 changes per child per day at the beginning, it will gradually come down from there; by about 2-3 mos you will probably be around 7-9 changes a day per child. As to how long they fit in each size, it will really depend on weight/length/build of your child. Some kids switch will out grow the diaper faster than others even though they are well within the weight range on the package.

You can always sell excess packages on craigslist if you buy too many. I'd rather have too many than not enough but if you keep an eye out you can supplement as you go.

I went through 1 box + the ones I got from the cart at the hospital in newborn, 4 boxes of 1, 3 boxes of 2 and we've used 2 boxes of 3's but we're still there. My twins are 6 months old and when I say box, I'm referring to the value sized ones from Amazon with close to 200 diapers in them.

My boys were normal sized babies though even though they are twins. We started out at 6 lbs 13 oz and 7 lbs 2 oz. Your babies may be smaller than that. I think it's easier to buy a 1 box of newborns, and a couple 1,2, and 3's and supplement as they grow and you find sales. That way you can kind of guage what size they'll be in.

If you buy them at a local store, you can take them back an exchange for different size later on, if needed.

I also found that certain brand diapers fit certain babies better. My son just couldn't wear Huggies, they gapped in all the wrong places. Now I'd NEVER say don't stockpile, but as far as how much to do in advance, it is something to keep in mind.

Just incase you don't know already also, Pampers, Huggies, and I think even Luvs has programs for multiple births that they help you out with some diapers for free. Most of the formula companies do it also. You do have to submit proof although I'm not 100% sure what they ask for.

I have g/b twins, they are 4 now tho...you will need about 24 diapers a day for the first few months and lots of wipes..boys dont use as many wipes as girls do for number 2 gets in places on girls that you have to a extra to clean them up good..

You can always take the diapers back and swap them for a bigger size if you need to,I had to do that on a few bags that I had...also keep in mind that they may not be in the same size diapers at the same time. My julia after the first few months was in a size bigger than her brother was..Also you can just go by the weight of 6 pounds for if they are 17 inches long or 21 it will make a differance in the diaper size you will need...I would not buy very many bags of newborn at all maybe 4-6 you can always buy more if you need to for they do outgrow those pretty fast. Size one they stay in for some time, size two not so much and size 3's a long time....

As for the brand Huggies was the best for all 4 of my kids..I have teenage boys 15 and 16 to go along with my now 4 twins..I also like huggies wipes better but if you get pampers wipes get the thick kind, I cant remember which pampers wipes I got one time but they were almost see threw and no good.

COngrats in advance. I just got twins 2 weeks ago. I don't know why you would need 24 diapers a day. I guess it is possible. Our twins are fed and changed every 3 hours. So 24/3 = 8 changes per day x2= 16 diapers a day. Some days 1-2 more.

Diapers.com has a 30% off deal for new members. So each parent can be a new member with a seperate account. Ask grandparents or friends to sign up and use their account to order more on the intro 30% off. THIS IS NOT FRAUD SO PLEASE DON"T COMPLAIN. It is legit and I asked diapers.com and they said they are fine with multiple people ordering.
If you can collect coupons then you can send them to diapers.com and they will apply them too.

Amazon has good sales too. My target price is 11 cents to 16 cents per diaper. I bought about 400 diapers to prepar which gives me about 25 days.

Remember twins are usually 4 weeks early so you need tiny diapers to start and for a few weeks more than a regular baby. THey usually weigh in at about 4-5 pounds at birth and drop about 10% of their weight in the first week. 40 week babies are huge in comparison and gain even more weight when they are born so you would switch diapers faster for them.

    Good luck with the twins.

I would stick to purchasing newborn and not preemie diapers. If your needing the preemie size..odds are it's because they are too tiny to come home at first...which will give you time to purchase them. They are the most expensive with the least amount of diapers..so if there bum can fit in a newborn go with that size.

A 6lb baby most likely will not fit in a size 1 diaper.

My 4lb 13oz baby who lived her first 5 weeks in the NICU never fit in a preemie diaper...so hold off...you never quite know what size there bum will be LOL.
