Thanks! I'm expecting my first in May and would like to try cloth diapers, so any deals (and information) are helpful!
A few good deals to share, these are all online deals.
Many diapers periodically offer 'seconds' which are diapers that have slight flaws, like a few loose stiches or a tag sewn wrong.
Sign up for cottonbabies email updates to find out about their seconds sales. Plus economy shipping is always free to the lower 48 states!

I'm trading again, but sometimes it takes a few days for me to respond with an infant in the house!
I have to agree, the seconds have worked perfectly for me. I love when cottonbabies does their Last Chance or used diapers....they are well loved but most can be repaired easily....or don't even need repairs and work wonderfully.

I third seconds. I have purchased five fuzzi buns that were considered seconds. On four out of five I can not even see a flaw. I see the flaw on the fifth but it has not effected the diaper's performance at all.
Diapers.com carries fuzzi buns and happy heinys which are a decent price with the codes they offer on first orders but not a great deal if you have ordered from there before. cotton babies is a great site as is Nicki's diapers and they will periodically send out discount or free shipping codes if you join their email list. abbey's lane always has a discount code if you join her yahoo group.
The two biggest bargains for cloth diapers are 1. use prefolds and covers 2. buy used. I know there is an ick factor with used diapers but even if you are unwilling to buy the diapers themselves used you can save a bundle by buying new prefolds and then getting the covers off craiglist. Since the covers don't touch your babies private parts i felt better about them being used then the actual dipes and I was able to get some great deals.

i love my cotton diapers. my youngest is on the verge of potty training...and i found that she is leaking thru the cotton all in ones (doubled up on the inserts)...but i have some cotton panties (the ones with the liner in them to absorb the accidents) and i put one of those over the cotton one. she thinks she is wearing big girl panties and is proud of them...and i am just happy that these help stop the leaks onto her clothes.

I second Prefolds and covers and buy used/ seconds. There is no ick factor really. Most of the time you buying the extras there were never/hardly warn. Maybe cloth wasn't their thing, or they hated the color or style.
There are a lot of cute dipes, that do wonderful things, but the simpler the better. I think I am going to switch to flats now that I will have a newborn and toddler in diapers! Just one less thing to fuss with!

I've been wanting to try cloth diapers I just don't want to put a bunch of money in them and then not like them... Nor do I have any idea what to buy. My son gets diaper rash and someone said this might help.. Can anyone help me? My little one is 4 months and 10 pounds.
At 10lbs most One Size diapers will begin to fit. We currently use Flips, Econobum, and BumGenius One Size 3.0 and 4.0 as the majority of our stash.
Flips are a cover and insert. The insert is microfiber with a stay dry top so your baby will feel dryer against their skin. The cover and insert are One Size so you can just fold to fit. They also make an organic insert which I've heard is really absorbent. You can get 2 covers and 6 insert for $50 or $60(depending on if you want staydry or organic)
Econobum are a cover and insert as well. The insert is a prefold diaper. This is also a One Size sytem you just fold the prefold one way or the other way to fit the cover. These prefolds are really absorbent(use to put 2 overnight on my super heavy wetter 3yr before he potty learned and he would last all night). You can get 3 covers and 12 of the prefold inserts for $50.
The One Size BG 4.0 are pocket stuffable diapers. They come with 2 microfiber inserts that you can fold to fit the correct size and stuff in a pocket. The inside of the pocket is a stay dry layer so your baby feels dryer against their skin. These are my overnight diapers for my almost 8 mos old. I use the big microfiber insert and a hemp insert and she goes 12 hrs.
What we use:
At our house I am now just diapering my DD. She is almost 8 mos old. I started diapering her at 1 mos old and maybe 7 or 8lbs. The flips and econobums, though they looked huge and gapped a little at the leggs never leaked. By 9 or 10lbs they didnt gap anymore. The econobums are a bit bulkier on little babies than the Flips system.
Currently we use a combination of all 3 of the above and then just some prefolds and fleece homemade covers. The fleece(repels water back to diaper until diaper is soaked) allows my daughter's butt to breathe a bit without her leaking on everything.
When we started out(for the 2nd time) I was diapering a newborn and a 2 1/2 yr old. I needed a one size system to save money. We started with 4 flips covers and 12 of the staydry inserts and 3 econobum covers with 12 prefold inserts, and 12 flats(to use as additional inserts). With that I could wash every other day and not run out.
For around $170 I was diapering 2 kids....you can prolly get by with 4 covers and 24 inserts....that would give you between 2 and 3 days of diapers(reuse covers unless something gets on them). I know on the Cottonbabies site they show that with econobum you can diaper for $100....which would give you 6 covers and 20 of the prefold inserts. Our diaper stash has grown a bit with sales and such but it still consists mostly of the same stuff.
Covers and inserts/prefolds are going to be your cheapest option for cloth diapering.
Also keep you eye out for 2nds(like others have said)...I just got an econobum cover w/color trim as a gift from a friend for my daughter that was only $5...the cover is in perfect shape and is actually slightly longer than my other covers.

I've been doing lots of research lately. Two newer brands that seem to be decent and priced lower are kawaii diapers and sunbaby diapers, both found on ebay, but they also have store sites and some smaller wahm companies sell kawaii's. They are pocket One size diapers, made in china, but it seems most covers/pockets are made overseas a lot more these days. It seems like cloth diapering has become way more mainstream since i was cding my ds. I added up i spent about 200$ give or take on cdin'g ds and that was buying a lot of used/seconds and using gerber prefolds I cloth diapered him pretty much from 10 months to 2 1/2 years, i did use some disposables during that time and will with this one as well), now it seems there are a lot more deals, and I plan to get almost a whole new system for this new one for about 200$ as well but nothing used except what is left from ds. I don't have an ick factor usually, but i do apparently when pregnant so I am just not going to go down that road right now.
I did buy the tweedle bug covers and some pockets and have purchased some kawaii's and prefolds so far and also got some econobum covers seconds and they all look pretty well made despite the seconds label (x) mark through some of the tags on the tweedle bugs, the kawaii and prefolds are not seconds.
I know that black friday/cyber monday was a good day to buy diapers, i did buy some items then, but also just using codes/stacking if some stores allow it (tiny tush i was able to stack codes on a couple orders), there are great deals to be had. Also amazon sells a lot of cloth diapers, so I plan to save up swagbucks to buy amazon giftcards and get more prefolds for really cheap that way. I have also heard that the 20% codes found in parenting magazines can be used for cloth diapers as well, so stacking giftcards from swagbucks and those codes may make some pretty cheap items as well.
